Could Chip And Joanna Gaines Return To TV? Fans Are Holding Out Hope!

Chip And Joanna Gaines Discuss Possible Return To 'Fixer Upper

Hold onto your hats, Fixer Upper fans! Back in September 2017, Chip and Joanna Gaines announced that Season 5 of HGTV’s beloved show would be their last. For many fans, this felt like the end of an era. But guess what? There’s still a glimmer of hope for a TV reunion. When asked if a return to the small screen was completely off the table, the Gaines duo told People, “We never rule anything out.” And honestly, who wouldn’t want to see more of these two incredible people on our screens?

Why Did Chip and Joanna Step Away from ‘Fixer Upper’?

Let’s take a moment to break this down. Chip Gaines, in a candid interview, explained the whirlwind that is life in front of the camera. “The show was amazing, and we’re so thankful for it, but it’s also a whirlwind,” he said. “If you’re not careful, it’ll run you over without looking back. You can’t believe how drained you feel.” The couple, who are juggling a bustling business empire and raising five children, decided they needed to step back and focus on what really matters—family and their other ventures.

A Day in the Life of the Gaines Family

Chip, now 43, and Joanna, 40, are no strangers to multitasking. They’ve built an empire that includes a magazine titled The Magnolia Journal, their “Hearth & Hand With Magnolia” line exclusively available at Target, and Joanna’s best-selling design book, Homebody: A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave. With so much on their plate, it’s no wonder they needed a break. But even with all these projects, they’ve never ruled out the possibility of returning to television.

From Cameras to Business: A New Chapter

When the Gaines family first started filming Fixer Upper back in 2013, they quickly realized just how different being in front of the camera was from running their businesses. Chip explained, “Being in front of the camera is a completely different experience than running a business, and running businesses is who we are.” It wasn’t until after the show wrapped that they truly understood just how burnt out they had become. But don’t worry—this isn’t the end of their creative journey. They’re still finding new ways to inspire and connect with their fans.

    The Legacy of ‘Fixer Upper’

The memories created during the filming of Fixer Upper will live on forever. In March 2017, just before the series finale, an episode titled “How We Got Here” aired. This episode was a heartfelt look back at their journey, featuring Chip and Joanna reminiscing about the time they spent filming with their four kids (at the time). Chip shared, “It seems like there’s never a dull moment. I don’t think a lot of people get to say, ‘I get to take the kids to work.’”

Fixer Upper gave Chip and Joanna the opportunity to work alongside their growing family, including their kids Drake, 12, Ella, 11, Duke, 9, Emmie Kay, 7, and their newest addition, baby Crew, who was born in June 2020. Joanna shared with People, “It’s crazy when I look at these kids—they’re growing so fast. So for us, whether it’s just ice cream or playing games, we’ve gotta make those moments count.”

Family First: The Gaines’ Heart and Soul

If you’re a fan of Fixer Upper, you already know how much family means to the Gaines clan. Joanna emphasized, “They’re so young, and we want to give them the chance to have a normal childhood. Family is the most important thing in the world.” So, if Chip and Joanna do decide to return to TV—whether it’s for Fixer Upper or something entirely new—you better believe we’ll be tuning in every single week!
