Jerry Seinfeld Opens Up About Parenting, Daughter's Boyfriend, And His Comedy Journey

Let’s face it, Jerry Seinfeld has always been a guy who knows how to keep things real. In a recent conversation with Us Weekly, the legendary comedian and his wife, Jessica, spilled some details about their parenting style, their daughter Sascha's boyfriend, and how they handle the chaos of raising three kids. At 18, Sascha doesn’t have to sneak around to see her significant other, and Jerry seems pretty chummy with him, though he does have a warning for the young man: "If you break her heart, you’re outta here, buddy." Oof, that’s a pretty solid dad move right there.

Seinfeld Shares His Thoughts on Parenting

When it comes to raising kids, Jerry and Jessica have a laid-back approach that works for them. "We love him so much," Jerry, now 64, told the magazine about his daughter's boyfriend. Jessica, who’s 47, chimed in saying, "We’re pretty relaxed when it comes to parenting." The couple admitted they were both under-parented as kids, so they’ve made a conscious effort not to overcompensate now that they’re raising their own family. Still, they’ve got a few tricks up their sleeves when it comes to discipline. If Sascha or their two sons, Julian, 15, and Shepherd, 13, get a little too rowdy, they’ve got a technique that gets results every time. "You can just barge in and go, ‘OK. Out of the room, off the screen.’ You can push them around," Jerry joked. But let’s be honest, he’s the more laid-back parent compared to Jessica.

From Prankster to Comedian: Jerry’s Journey

Believe it or not, the guy who made millions laugh on TV wasn’t always the life of the party at home. Growing up in Long Island, Jerry’s parents had no idea he was the class clown until he finally came clean. "I was never funny around my parents," he revealed during a recent appearance at The New Yorker Festival. "So when I told them I was going to be a comedian, it was my gay closet moment: ‘You don’t know this, but I’m funny.’" It took a lot of courage for Jerry to share his dreams, but his parents’ reaction was surprisingly chill. "Oh, OK, good. Do whatever you want," they told him. Talk about supportive! And the rest, as they say, is history. Jerry’s big break came in 1981 when he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Now, his kids don’t have to worry about confessing their career aspirations because Jerry’s already given them the ultimate parental stamp of approval.

From Comedian to Cool Dad: Jerry's Evolution

It’s clear that Jerry has come a long way since his early days of comedy. He’s not only a household name but also a pretty cool dad. While it took guts to tell his parents he wanted to be a comedian, he’s made sure his kids never have to feel the same pressure. With a parenting style that’s both relaxed and effective, Jerry and Jessica are setting a great example for other families. Who knows, maybe one of their kids will follow in Jerry’s footsteps and take the comedy world by storm. One thing’s for sure, though: they’ll have all the support they need from their parents.
