Who needs soap operas when the Today show is dishing out enough drama to fill an entire season? It’s been just over a year since NBC let Matt Lauer go due to sexual misconduct allegations, and now Megyn Kelly has made her own exit from the 9 a.m. slot. Why? Well, it seems her controversial comments about wearing blackface on Halloween didn’t sit well with viewers—or the network. So, with the anchor chair wide open, will Hoda Kotb step back in to save the day? The short answer: Maybe!
A New Chapter for the Today Show
On October 29, Hoda Kotb announced, “We are starting a new chapter in the third hour of our show as it evolves,” while she and Al Roker filled in for the departed Megyn. But here’s the kicker: instead of bringing in yet another big-name host, the show’s producers are taking a different route. According to sources exclusively speaking with Closer Weekly, the revamped third hour “is going to look a lot like the first two hours.” Translation? Expect to see familiar faces like Savannah Guthrie, Hoda herself, and Al Roker taking turns at the anchor desk. And don’t forget about Craig Melvin and Jenna Bush Hager—they’ll likely make appearances too.

Megyn's Exit and NBC's Big Plans
Remember when Megyn Kelly left Fox News Channel for NBC back in January 2017? She reportedly inked a $69 million deal, but her time on the Today show wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. As she negotiates to get what she’s owed from her contract, the morning show’s producers are already moving forward. They’re reimagining the studio that was specifically designed for Megyn Kelly Today. It’s like tearing down the old set and building something fresh—and maybe even a little brighter.
“Eventually, NBC is hoping to settle on a permanent single host, duo, or team,” one insider revealed. And guess who’s eager to step back into the spotlight? That’s right—Al Roker. Before Megyn arrived, Al was co-hosting the hour, and now he’s chomping at the bit to reclaim his spot. “He’s more than anxious to be co-anchoring the show again,” the insider added.
Hoda: Ready to Take the Helm
Hoda Kotb isn’t just sitting this one out. She’s still co-hosting the fourth hour with Kathie Lee Gifford, but if called upon to steady the ship once more, she’s all in. “Instead of feeling stretched thin, she’s raring to go,” the insider explained. In fact, if given the chance, Hoda would host all four hours. Can you picture that? Four straight hours of Hoda shining bright? Sounds like a dream come true for fans.

Despite all the chaos, the insiders at Closer say there’s optimism in the air. “The executives, staff, and talent look at the new changes as the next step toward a brighter, better Today,” one source shared. Change can be tough, but sometimes it’s exactly what a show needs to thrive.
