When Rose Byrne welcomed her first son, Rocco, now 2, with Bobby Cannavale back in 2016, the little guy had his parents' undivided attention. But everything changed when Rose gave birth to her second baby boy, Rafael, in 2017. In a candid new interview, Rose opened up about the emotional 'trauma' Rocco experienced when his baby brother entered the picture. The transition wasn’t easy, but it taught them all valuable lessons about sibling dynamics.
Adjusting to Life with Two Boys
Rose shared her experience of raising two small boys during a recent appearance on Live! with Kelly and Ryan. She admitted that life became quite hectic once Rafael arrived. "It was definitely an adjustment," Rose recalled. "Rocco, at first, didn’t quite understand having a brother. He’d wake up in the morning and say, 'No Rafa, no Rafa.' It was adorable, but also heartbreaking to see him struggle with the change." Rose explained how challenging it was for Rocco to process the new addition to their family, but she believed it would ultimately strengthen his character.

Unique Personalities Bring New Challenges
Rose, now 39, admitted she was surprised by how different Rafael's personality turned out compared to Rocco's. "It’s fascinating," she said. "The little guy is actually a lot more aggressive than the big guy. Rafael loves to go in for the tackle and pin Rocco down. It’s quite the transformation from the calm and collected Rocco we knew before." Rose joked about the initial 'trauma' the boys went through, but she firmly believes that these challenges help build resilience in them. "It toughens them up, right? They’re learning to navigate life together, and that’s such a beautiful thing," she added.
Host Kelly Ripa, who shares three children with her husband Mark Consuelos, related to Rose’s experience. "I absolutely love this stage because they start recognizing you as a real person," Kelly told Rose. "At this age, they’re forming their own identities, and it’s so rewarding to watch them grow." Kelly's heartfelt response resonated with Rose, as both moms shared a moment of understanding over the joys and struggles of parenting.

Balancing Work and Family
Rose’s career is thriving alongside her family life. Her newest movie, Peter Rabbit, has been a hit in theaters, and she recently wrapped up filming for another project called Instant Family. Meanwhile, Bobby, 48, is busy shooting the second season of Homecoming. Despite their demanding schedules, the couple ensures they prioritize time for their growing family. Shortly after Rafael’s birth, Bobby spoke to Entertainment Tonight about their new reality. "It’s going great," he said. "There’s definitely a lack of sleep in the house, but we’re doing well. It’s all worth it when you see those little faces smiling back at you." Their journey as parents continues to evolve, and each day brings new adventures and challenges.
