A few weeks ago, Halle Berry made headlines by breaking one of her long-standing parenting rules. The 51-year-old actress shared a rare photo of her four-year-old son, Maceo Robert Martinez, on Instagram. In a candid interview with Extra, Berry opened up about the emotional struggle she faced in making that decision. Sharing such a personal moment wasn’t easy, but she felt it was the right thing to do for her fans.
“That was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done,” Berry revealed. “I’ve always been very protective of my kids’ privacy, and I didn’t want to start showing their faces just because people are curious. But I also realize that my fans have been there for me through thick and thin, and I wanted to include them in this special moment.”

Berry explained that sharing Maceo’s photo during a family vacation in Bora Bora was a calculated decision. “It’s a delicate balance because I want to protect my kids, but I also want to give my fans a glimpse into my world. So, I thought, why not show half his face? That way, I’m still respecting his privacy while giving them a little something special,” she said with a smile.
Why Privacy Matters to Halle Berry
For years, Halle has been cautious about sharing too much of her children’s lives online. Even her 10-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela Aubry, rarely appears in full view on social media. In 2016, a fan questioned whether Berry was proud enough of her kids to share their faces publicly. But Halle quickly clarified her stance.
“I’m extremely proud of my children. They’re the most important part of my life, and I try to find creative ways to include them in my posts. However, I also work hard to keep their identities private because they’re still kids. I believe it’s their choice when they’re older to decide what they want to share with the world. It’s not up to me,” she wrote at the time.
