Hey there, friends! Let’s talk about Joy Behar. You know her—she’s the sharp-tongued, hilarious co-host of The View. But on Monday, June 11, she wasn’t in her usual seat, and fans were understandably worried. Well, folks, here's the scoop: Joy ended up in the hospital over the weekend after accidentally slicing her hand while trying to open an avocado. Yikes, right? Who knew something as innocent as making guacamole could turn into a medical drama?
On Tuesday, June 12, Joy returned to the show and shared the whole story. She recounted, “Saturday night, I was on my way to a retreat, and I decided I needed a quick snack. So, I grabbed an avocado, because, well, avocados are life, right? But when I tried to cut it open, I accidentally plunged the knife straight into my hand. I thought I was being careful, but apparently not careful enough.” She went on to describe the pain as something she’d never experienced before. “It was intense, awful, and honestly, a bit terrifying,” she admitted.
Now, here’s the kicker: Joy learned that her mishap has a name. “Apparently, there’s a real thing called ‘Avocado Hand,’” she explained. “Doctors see it all the time. It happens when you hold the avocado in your hand while trying to cut it. Rookie mistake, I know. So, what happened was, I think I got an infection from the cut, which is why they had to admit me to the hospital overnight for observation.”

But Joy didn’t let this little setback keep her down for long. With her trademark humor, she joked, “From now on, I’m leaving the dicing to the professionals. Rachael Ray can handle it. And as for me? I’ll stick to buying pre-made guacamole. No more knives for me!” Her ability to laugh at herself and turn a potentially scary situation into a funny story is truly something to admire.

Joy’s ability to find humor in tough situations isn’t new. In a past interview with Closer Weekly, she explained why having a sense of humor is so important. “A sense of humor is a precious gift, and not everyone has it,” she said. “I feel sorry for those who don’t because it truly helps you get through life. If you’re lucky enough to have it, nurture it—it’s a sign of sanity.” She also shared some wisdom she’s picked up along the way: “I’ve learned so many lessons over the years. The big ones? Don’t hold back, say what’s on your mind, and always be kind to the people you love.” We’re just thrilled to see Joy back on the show and doing well!
