Carrie Underwood Opens Up About Her Fall: Healing, Reflection, And Moving Forward

Carrie Underwood Responds After Hoda Kotb Says She Looks 'the Same

It’s been half a year since Carrie Underwood’s terrifying fall that left her with a facial injury and a broken wrist. During a heartfelt chat with Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb on May 8, the television personality offered Carrie some much-needed encouragement. In typical Hoda fashion, she reassured Carrie by saying she looks “the same” after the incident she warned fans would make her “look a bit different.” Carrie, ever the professional, graciously responded, “Thank you. I’ve got an incredible team of pros who can spackle, paint, and paste. Every day, I feel a little more like myself again.”

Hoda Kotb’s Words of Comfort

Hoda Kotb has always had a way of making people feel seen and heard. When she told Carrie she still looked like the same Carrie we all know and love, it was a powerful moment. Carrie, who’s been through so much, expressed her gratitude and talked about her recovery journey. “I’m so lucky to have such a dedicated team of professionals who help me every step of the way,” she said. “They’ve been instrumental in my healing process, and I’m getting closer to feeling normal each day.”

The Incident That Changed Everything

Carrie then went on to describe the night of the accident that left her with 40 stitches in her face back in November. “It was just one of those freak accidents that could happen to anyone,” she explained. “I was taking my dogs out for their nightly walk, and I tripped. I tried to catch myself on a step, but I missed. In the beginning, I didn’t know how things were going to turn out. It wasn’t a pretty sight, and I was scared.”

  • This wasn’t the first time Carrie has shared details about the incident. Last month, during an appearance on The Bobby Bones Show, she opened up about what happened. “I was letting the dogs out for one last bathroom break, and I tripped,” she recounted. “There was just one step, and I didn’t let go of the leashes! Thank goodness my left hand is fine. But I went to catch myself and missed the step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been fine. That one step changed everything.”

Carrie’s Honest Account of the Injury

Later that day, Carrie shared more details with Storme Warren on SiriusXM’s The Highway channel. “I thought I just busted my lip,” she recalled. “Then I walked inside, took the dog leashes off, and took my coat off to check the damage. That’s when I realized it was much worse than I thought. I’m acting calm about it now, but at the time, it was pretty bad. I chipped my tooth, but thankfully, it was just my skin. Stitches and all that stuff.”

The “Church Bells” singer opened up about her healing process, revealing the uncertainty she faced. “There was a point where I didn’t know how things were going to turn out,” she confessed. “I didn’t know how it was going to heal or what it would look like in the end. You just don’t know how these things will heal.”

  • Luckily for Carrie, her recovery went well, and fans were thrilled to see her perform on stage at the ACM Awards after a long hiatus on April 15. However, some fans were puzzled because Carrie didn’t seem to have the scars she had previously mentioned, and she looked almost the same as before.

    Carrie’s Positive Outlook

Carrie isn’t shying away from the incident—she’s embracing it. “I don’t know if I’ll ever stop talking about it, because it was a significant event in my life,” she said. “And honestly, I’m okay with talking about it. It’s part of my story now.” Her resilience and positivity are truly inspiring. You go, girl!
