Eileen Davidson Opens up About Having a Blended Family

Let me tell you about Eileen Davidson, a TV star who’s kept things exciting for over three decades. Since her debut as Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless back in 1984, she’s become a household name. Not only has she graced the small screen on shows like Santa Barbara, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Days of Our Lives, but she’s also authored three novels and even became a regular on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills from 2014 to 2017. In a heartwarming interview with Closer Weekly, Eileen shares her insights into her most cherished role—being a mom.

Now, Eileen is married to actor-writer Vincent Van Patten, and they have a son named Jesse. Eileen is also a stepmom to Vincent’s sons, Duke, who’s 25, and Vince Jr., who’s 22. “I put in a lot of effort to make sure his kids got to know me,” Eileen shares with Closer. “We made our home a fun place, and hey, I’m not against a little bribery!” she jokes. But she adds, “The most important lesson for everyone is to just be yourself and take chances. That’s something I constantly remind the kids about.”

Love and Family: Eileen and Vince's Story

Eileen met her husband, Vince, on the set of The Young and the Restless. “I knew I wanted to have a baby right away because I was 41, and that was a huge factor,” she explains. “Honestly, if you’ve ever heard of people who are just meant to be together, that’s Vince and me.”

But blending families isn’t always easy. “Vince told me upfront, ‘I have two kids, and it’s a package deal,’” Eileen recalls. “Building a blended family takes work. You’ve got to put the kids first, and remember, we’re all people with feelings, desires, and needs. Vince’s ex-wife and I have come to an understanding—we’re each other’s teachers, and we’ve prioritized the kids almost all the time.”

Eileen continues, “Getting pregnant later in life was such a blessing because I already had so many nieces and nephews. I knew firsthand how quickly time flies with kids.”

    Lessons Learned: Raising a Family

Eileen tells Closer, “When Jesse would get upset with his brother, I’d remind him, ‘One day they won’t be here.’ Now that the boys have moved out, Jesse often says, ‘Mom, it’s so quiet here. It’s like crickets.’”
