Frank Bielec Returns To 'Trading Spaces': A New Chapter For The Beloved Designer

Trading Spaces' Frank Bielec Says He's "Totally Different" in the 2018

Imagine this: You're just an ordinary guy, doing your thing at a paint convention, and all of a sudden, BAM! You're thrust into the spotlight on a hit TV show. That's exactly what happened to Frank Bielec, a designer who accidentally became a star on TLC's 'Trading Spaces.' It all started when he stepped in as a last-minute substitute demonstrator at a convention in Nashville. That's where a TV producer spotted him, and the rest, as they say, is history.

From Reluctant Star to Fan Favorite

At first, Frank wasn't so sure about returning to the world of TV and celebrity. "I just thought there were so many reasons I didn’t want to get back into that stuff, the whole celebrity thing," he admitted to Good Housekeeping. But, let's be honest, 'Trading Spaces' just wouldn't be the same without him. Frank's charm, wit, and unique design aesthetic made him a fan favorite from the very beginning. Even though he described filming his first episode as “a cross between plastic surgery and a root canal,” he quickly found his groove and became beloved by both the homeowners and the fans at home.

Standing Up for Pamela Herrick

Frank isn't just known for his designs; he's also known for his compassion. Take, for example, his defense of Pamela Herrick, the 'Trading Spaces' participant who cried when she saw what designer Doug Wilson had done to her fireplace. Frank stood up for her, saying, "She gave the most honest reaction we’ve gotten and she took a lot of heat for that. People made a joke out of her and that bothered me." It's this kind of empathy that makes Frank such a relatable and beloved figure.

After the show's finale in 2008, Frank didn't exactly slow down. Sure, he might joke about "doing a whole lot of nothing followed by a nap," but the truth is, he's been incredibly busy. According to Good Housekeeping, Frank has been traveling to art shows, giving cooking demonstrations, and volunteering with animals. And if that's not enough, he even drives his friends' kids to school! Frank's post-'Trading Spaces' life is a testament to his versatility and passion for creativity.

A New Chapter for Frank Bielec

When the show's revival was announced, Frank was hesitant to return. But, as he told Good Housekeeping, his wife convinced him to give it another shot. "She was very much in favor of me doing it even though I didn’t want to — but she’s always right," he said with a laugh. And it turns out, the revival has been a "joyous experience" for Frank. He hinted that there are some exciting surprises in store for viewers this season. Plus, fans can expect "a totally different Frank." While he joked that he doesn't do chickens anymore, his signature sense of humor is still intact, and that's all we really need.
