Gwyneth Paltrow Reveals Battle With Postpartum Depression After Her Son

Let’s talk about Gwyneth Paltrow, the Hollywood star known for her grace, talent, and authenticity. Recently, the two-time mom opened up about her journey through postnatal depression after the birth of her son Moses. Gwyneth, who’s currently glowing with “true happiness” after her engagement to Brad Falchuk, shared her story with her mom, Blythe Danner, on her popular Goop podcast. It’s a raw and emotional account that highlights the challenges many mothers face.

Now, Gwyneth wasn’t expecting this dark chapter in her life. “It was really shocking to me because I never thought that I would experience postnatal depression,” she revealed. At 45, she admitted that the joy she felt after the birth of her daughter, Apple, made her believe the same would happen with Moses. But life had other plans. “With Apple, I was so euphoric. I assumed it would be the same with Mosey, but it just… it took a while. I really went into a dark place,” she confessed, her voice filled with vulnerability.

Despite the struggles, Gwyneth believes her experience with postnatal depression actually strengthened her bond with Moses. “After Moses was born, I had postpartum depression. It was a tough time, but because of that, I have an extra layer of empathy for him, and I think he feels the same for me,” she told InStyle magazine. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in the darkest moments, there’s room for growth and connection.

Interestingly, it was her ex-husband, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who first noticed something was off. “About four months in, Chris came to me and said, ‘Something’s wrong. Something’s wrong,’” she shared with Good Housekeeping. “I kept saying, ‘No, no, I’m fine.’ But Chris identified it, and that sort of burst the bubble.” Chris, always the supportive partner, helped Gwyneth face her struggles head-on.

On the podcast, which aired just in time for Mother’s Day, Gwyneth took a moment to flip the script and ask her mom, Blythe Danner, about her own life. “From my perspective, you’ve had this amazing life, not that it’s always been easy,” Gwyneth said to her mom, whose husband passed away from cancer in 2002. “But you have these wonderful friends and children who love you, and grandchildren who adore you. You’ve had this incredible career. I just wonder, are there still things you want to accomplish?”
