Hey there, let's dive into the buzz surrounding Lara Spencer's recent decision to step back from Good Morning America. Fans were left wondering when they didn't see her on the show recently. Is she leaving GMA? Not quite. But it seems like we might be seeing less of her on our screens, and surprisingly, the show's staff reportedly aren't too upset about it.
What's Going On Behind the Scenes?
According to an industry insider speaking with Page Six, the atmosphere backstage at GMA has been tense. "Staff are relieved that Lara’s schedule is being cut back," the source revealed. "She treats staff badly, she yells at people, and she makes a lot of extra work for everyone." It sounds like the decision to reduce her screen time might not have come entirely from Lara herself.
A New Chapter for Lara Spencer
Now, let's get to the heart of the matter. Lara, who's 48, is pulling back from her role at GMA to explore fresh and exciting career opportunities. But here's the kicker: sources say it wasn't just her choice. The network reportedly decided to cut back her airtime, as her presence doesn't seem to significantly impact the show's ratings. "Lara’s good at her job," the source added. "But it’s not like the [ratings] are affected when she’s not on [the show]." It seems like the decision was more strategic than personal.

However, a representative for GMA strongly disagrees with this narrative. "This is ridiculous. She is the ultimate team player. Lara decided to cut back her hours on GMA to focus on her production company," they insisted.
A Shift in Priorities
On Monday, April 16, a source told People that Lara is stepping away from her role as GMA co-anchor to focus on her lifestyle brand and her production company, DuffKat Media—named after her teenagers, Duff and Kate. "Lara loves working at GMA and she will continue to join the GMA desk on select mornings each week and contribute to special assignment reporting so she can continue building her lifestyle brand and work on all the TV shows for her production company," the insider explained.
Lara first joined the Good Morning America team as a lifestyle anchor in 2011. But her journey with ABC actually began way back in 1999 when she worked as a national correspondent. She left in 2004 to host The Insider, a celeb news show. Over the years, she's also taken on roles hosting two seasons of Antiques Roadshow and co-hosting two Miss America pageants. It's been quite a ride!
Now, with new career opportunities on the horizon, Lara's all about finding the perfect balance. "She knows she can’t balance GMA, all her upcoming television shows, and DuffKat while also finding time for her family," the source added. And if that wasn't enough, Lara's also in the midst of planning a wedding!

For those who don't know, Lara, a Long Island native, got engaged to tech entrepreneur Rick McVey in January, two years after they met on a blind date. She was previously married to journalist David Haffenreffer, the father of her two kids.
Exciting New Ventures
As for her new career ventures, DuffKat Media has a "heavy slate of projects currently in active development," according to People. The source even revealed that Lara recently sold two shows to Scripps, which was just purchased by Discovery Communications. She’ll host one of those two shows and executive-produce both. And let's not forget, she's also the host of HGTV's Flea Market Flip, which was just renewed for a 12th season. We wish her nothing but the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter!
