An Upcoming Tribute to Comedy Legends
There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the long-awaited film about the legendary Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. While cameras haven’t started rolling yet, the iconic star’s daughter, Lucie Arnaz, has decided to share her thoughts on the project for the very first time. This is a big deal because it's not just any biopic—it’s a story about her parents, two of the most influential figures in television history. And let me tell you, it’s going to be something special.
Lucie, who’s now 66, is working alongside some seriously talented people on this project, including none other than Aaron Sorkin. If you’ve ever seen The West Wing, you know this guy knows how to craft compelling stories. Lucie described how Sorkin and the other producers presented the film concept to her. “They approached it in such a positive, optimistic way,” she said. “They were upfront about the complexities of my parents’ relationship. Sure, there were challenges, but they truly believe this was one of the greatest love stories of all time.”

One of the most heartwarming aspects of this project is how deeply personal it feels for Lucie. She shared how meeting Cate Blanchett, the two-time Oscar winner set to play her mom, was a pivotal moment. “Cate said, ‘It must have been holy hell trying to keep a marriage together while raising a family and achieving the kind of success Lucy had,’” Lucie recounted. “I told her, ‘Thank you very much,’ and that was all I needed to hear. She gets it.”
Cate Blanchett: The Perfect Choice?
During a previous exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, a close friend of Cate’s revealed just how excited her entire family is about this project. “The kids have been watching I Love Lucy for years,” the source said. “Cate says her children would never forgive her if she didn’t take on this role. They’re thrilled their mom is playing someone they admire so much.”
Cate’s four children—Dashiell, 16, Roman, 14, Ignatius, 10, and daughter Edith, 3, with husband Andrew Upton—are fully supportive. “They’ve grown up loving Lucy,” the insider added. “For them, it’s not just a movie—it’s a connection to a beloved icon.”

Author Michael Stern, who penned I Had a Ball: My Friendship With Lucille Ball, chimed in as well. “Cate is an extraordinary actress who can really immerse herself in a role,” he said. “Lucy would be proud to have someone of Cate’s caliber bring her story to life.”
