Queen Elizabeth Finds Comfort In Meghan Markle's Rescue Beagle, Guy

There’s no denying that Queen Elizabeth has always been a devoted dog lover. For decades, the Queen has been seen alongside her loyal pack of Pembroke Welsh corgis, a constant presence as she ruled the United Kingdom. But recently, her heart was broken when she lost her 14-year-old corgi, Willow, a cherished companion for many years. Thankfully, it seems the Queen has found solace in an unexpected new furry friend—Meghan Markle’s rescue beagle, Guy.

On Sunday, April 15, Queen Elizabeth’s beloved corgi, Willow, was put to sleep. Willow was the last remaining descendant of a long line of royal corgis, all traced back to the Queen’s very first dog, Susan. Her passing left a void in the Queen’s life, but Meghan Markle’s beagle, Guy, has stepped in to bring a little joy and comfort. The Queen and Guy were spotted riding side by side in the back seat of a Range Rover, heading toward Windsor Castle, just a day before Prince Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding on May 19.

  • It didn’t take long for the news to spread. Celebrity blogger Lainey Gossip was the first to break the story, writing, “Look who’s in the backseat with [the Queen]. That’s a beagle! Meghan’s beagle, Guy! Guy is rolling with the Queen! Guy is the true VIP.” Her words resonated with fans, who quickly embraced the heartwarming story.

Internet Reacts to Guy’s Royal Ride

As soon as the video of Guy riding with the Queen hit social media, Twitter erupted with excitement. Hundreds of royal fans and dog lovers alike couldn’t help but express their adoration for Guy. While some users shared screenshots of the video, capturing the moment Guy rode alongside the Queen, others decided to get creative. One user, Kathryn Michele, posted a photo of a beagle adorned with a crown and royal coat, captioning it humorously: “All hail Her Majesty The Queen’s King. HRH Guy Mountbatten Windsor, first of his name, King of the Commonwealth, Lord of Kensington, and Protector of Beagles. Long may he reign.”

Guy’s journey to royalty is nothing short of a fairy tale. Before Meghan Markle entered the picture, Guy was living in a kill-shelter in Kentucky, where he was found wandering in the woods. The shelter reached out to Dolores Doherty, the owner of A Dog’s Dream Rescue in Ontario, Canada, asking if she could take in a 17-pound beagle. With no interest from potential adopters and limited time, the shelter staff reluctantly added Guy to the euthanasia list.

Dolores Doherty, known for her compassionate nature, couldn’t say no. “I always say yes,” she told The Guardian. “I can’t say no. I’m a sucker.” With her agreement, a group of dedicated volunteers transported Guy over 500 miles to the Canadian border. Before Guy had even been in Canada for a full day, Doherty brought him to an adoption event near Toronto. Meghan Markle attended the event, hoping to find a new furry friend for her rescue pup, Bogart. It was love at first sight for both Meghan and Guy.

However, life took a turn when Meghan moved to Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. Bogart, who was too old to endure the long flight, stayed behind with close friends. In a joint interview with Harry, Meghan mentioned her two rescue dogs. “I have two dogs that I’ve had for quite a long time, both my rescue pups,” she said. “And one is now staying with very close friends and my other little guy is, yes he’s in the UK, he’s been here for a while. I think he’s doing just fine.”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to see more rescue dogs following in Guy’s pawsteps, bringing joy to the royal household?
