Breaking Down the Possibility of a 'Desperate Housewives' Reboot
Let’s face it, folks—there’s nothing quite like a trip down memory lane, especially when it comes to shows that defined a generation. In a recent interview, James Denton, the charming actor behind Dr. Doug on Desperate Housewives, opened up about the chances of a reboot. Spoiler alert: it’s not looking good. James revealed that the idea of bringing back the hit drama is, unfortunately, “unlikely.” Why? Well, it all comes down to the "many personalities" of the show's dynamic cast, who have since gone their separate ways.
James, now 55, explained his perspective, saying, “Based on what you might have read in the press or heard in stories, a reboot is unlikely.” He added that there’s certainly a case for bringing the show back, particularly because it hasn’t been syndicated widely. “You might’ve noticed—it’s not in reruns. So, you haven’t been bombarded with reruns, and I really believe it’s the kind of show that could work with a reboot. But I just don’t know if it’s feasible with so many strong personalities involved, and everyone heading in different directions,” he told People.

But here’s the kicker: James believes a reboot could be a blast. “It would be really fun, though [my character] is dead, so I wouldn’t benefit from it,” he admitted. “I think it would make sense—except for our ages—to start before the story began, almost like a prequel. Because we came from such intriguing places in the beginning, and I think exploring that would be fascinating. But it’s nearly impossible to do with everyone looking 15 years older.”
Felicity Huffman Weighs In: The Well Is Dry
Meanwhile, Felicity Huffman, who played the unforgettable Lynette Scavo, echoed James’ sentiments in a separate interview. She told Life & Style, “That well is dry, and I think [creator Marc Cherry] has told all of those stories and he’s moved on to other projects.” Even if the show were to make a comeback, Felicity said she wouldn’t be part of it. “It’s a sweet memory,” she added. “It’s going to be on my tombstone, and we’ll leave it at that.”
Felicity went on to explain why she chose to move on after the show ended in 2012 after eight successful seasons. “After doing a long-running television series, people can only see you as that one character, so I wanted to try something different,” she said.
Vanessa Williams: The One Saying Yes
Not everyone is saying no, though. Vanessa Williams, who portrayed the stylish and sassy character of Gabrielle Solis, is all for a possible reunion. In an exclusive chat with Closer Weekly back in 2017, Vanessa said, “Sure, yeah!” when asked if she’d be interested in participating in a future reunion. She shared that she’s still close with the cast, mentioning that she sang at Eva Longoria’s wedding and had crossed paths with Felicity Huffman at the Emmys. “I haven’t seen Marcia [Cross], she’s the only one I haven’t seen,” she added.
While Vanessa and Eva Longoria are game, the same can’t be said for everyone. Eva, who played Gaby’s best friend, has expressed her enthusiasm for returning to Wisteria Lane. “I would play Gaby again in a heartbeat,” she told Closer Weekly in 2017. However, she acknowledged that the showrunner and creator, Marc Cherry, doesn’t seem interested in revisiting the show. Still, fans are holding out hope!
