Chrissy Teigen Worries About Postpartum Depression With Second Baby

Hey there! In just a few months, Chrissy Teigen is set to welcome her second child into the world. But as excited as she is about this new chapter, she’s also expressing concerns about something many parents can relate to—postpartum depression. Chrissy, who is 32 years old, battled this after the birth of her daughter, Luna, now 22 months old. In a heartfelt interview at the Create & Cultivate conference in LA on February 24, she opened up about her worries regarding her mental health after her son arrives.

During the conference, Chrissy shared her thoughts candidly with her hairstylist, Jen Atkin. “Do I worry about it with this little boy? I do,” she admitted. “But I also know that when it does happen—if it does—I’m so ready for it. I’ve got a great support system around me. That’s why having a core group of people who truly understand and care is so important to me.”

Chrissy didn’t shy away from discussing her previous experience with postpartum depression after giving birth to Luna in April 2016. She revealed that at the time, she thought what she was feeling was normal. “You have a kid, you’re sad, you lose those endorphins and that’s the way it is,” she confessed. But over time, she realized that wasn’t necessarily true and that postpartum depression is a serious condition that requires attention and support.

    Gratitude and Respect for Others

Chrissy expressed immense gratitude for having her husband, John Legend, her family, and friends by her side during her struggle. But she also showed deep respect for those who manage to overcome postpartum depression without the same level of support she has. “I cannot explain how much I look up to people that are still trying to grow into what they want to be,” she explained. “I’m older now, I’ve been through a lot, but I don’t know how I would have handled it if I were still trying to prove myself and having to answer to certain people. Honestly, I think I would have been too weak. I don’t know how you guys do it every single day.”

Breaking the Silence on Postpartum Depression

Chrissy first spoke publicly about her diagnosis last year, and she revealed why it took her so long to open up about it. “Postpartum depression doesn’t discriminate. I couldn’t control it. And that’s part of the reason it took me so long to speak up: I felt selfish, icky, and weird saying aloud that I’m struggling. Sometimes I still do,” she shared. “But I’m speaking up now because I want people to know it can happen to anybody, and I don’t want people who have it to feel embarrassed or alone. I also don’t want to pretend like I know everything about postpartum depression because it can be different for everyone. But one thing I do know is that— for me—just being open about it helps.”
