Alright, settle in, folks! Tonight’s the night we bid farewell to one of HGTV’s most beloved shows, Fixer Upper. For the past five years, we’ve watched as Chip and Joanna Gaines transformed ordinary homes into dream houses, one stunning renovation at a time. But as the final episode airs, it’s time to reflect on the incredible journey this dynamic duo has taken us on since the show premiered back in 2013.
A Journey to Remember: From the Pilot to the Finale
Even as the Gaines family became household names and bonafide celebrities, they’ve never forgotten where they came from. Joanna recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, showcasing a side-by-side photo comparing their first episode with their last. It’s a powerful reminder of just how far they’ve come. “I can’t believe tonight marks our very last episode of Fixer Upper,” Joanna wrote. “This picture is of us filming our pilot in 2012 and then our last scene of Fixer in 2017. What a journey this has been!”
She continued, “The end is bittersweet, but we are excited for what’s to come.” Joanna’s words resonate with fans who’ve grown to love the Gaines family—not just for their incredible design skills, but for their warmth, authenticity, and the way they’ve brought joy into so many homes.

What Fans Are Saying
Fans have been pouring their hearts out in response to the series finale. Many are expressing gratitude for the impact the Gaines family has had on their lives over the past five years. One fan wrote, “I’m crying seeing the words ‘series finale.’ You guys are the best and your family deserves this break, but selfishly I never want it to end.” Another added, “Best wishes as y’all close this chapter and start a new one. Thank you for sharing your amazing family & talent with all of us. Y’all made us feel like we were getting to see our friends every Tuesday evening and will be dearly missed.”
Why They’re Stepping Back
Back in the fall, Chip and Joanna announced that the current season of Fixer Upper would be their last. They’ve decided to focus on a special called Chip and Joanna’s Family Garden Project, which gives viewers a peek into their family life and showcases their efforts to revamp the garden in the backyard of their Texas home. It’s all about prioritizing family time and making sure their kids get to enjoy their childhood outside the spotlight.
“As far as I’ve known, they’ve always planned on stepping out to make sure their kids got to enjoy part of their childhood out of the spotlight,” said Sydney Noh, a former Fixer Upper associate producer. “Their ability to know when it’s time to step out and move into a new part of their lives is a testament to what amazing people they are.”

What’s Next for the Gaines Family?
The Gaines family isn’t disappearing from our screens just yet. They’re expecting their fifth child—a baby boy! And if that’s not exciting enough, they’ve also announced a new spin-off called Fixer Upper: Behind the Design, which premieres in April. This show will give fans an inside look at the design process behind the stunning homes they’ve come to love.
