Meghan Markle's Parents Will Travel to London for Her Church of England

Guess what? Meghan Markle's parents are heading to England! According to a recent report, Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle are planning to travel to the UK later this month. Their destination? Kensington Palace in London. The purpose? Meghan’s Baptism into the Church of England. Doria will be flying all the way from California, while Thomas is set to make the trip from his home in Mexico, as reported by The Sunday Times.

A Special Ceremony for Meghan

Meghan, the former star of Suits, has reportedly requested none other than Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, to conduct this private ceremony. If Thomas does make it to England, this will be the first time he meets his future son-in-law, Prince Harry. After their engagement announcement in November 2017, Meghan had mentioned that Harry had spoken to her dad a few times but hadn’t managed to meet him yet. Now, it seems like that meeting might finally happen!

Right after Prince Harry popped the question late last year, the royal’s Communications Secretary, Jason Knauf, confirmed to People that Meghan would undergo a formal baptism into the Church of England before her Saturday, May 19, wedding. Meghan was raised Episcopalian, which is her dad’s religion. Her mom, Doria, is Protestant. Considering that Harry’s famous grandma, Queen Elizabeth, holds the official religious role of Supreme Governor of the Church of England, Meghan’s baptism is a necessary step before saying “I Do” with Harry.

What Happens During an Adult Baptism?

According to the Church of England’s official website, an adult baptism ceremony may involve water being poured on your head at the font or even full immersion in a special pool, depending on the church. Regardless of the method, it’s described as a joyous occasion full of celebration. Interestingly, Kate Middleton was baptized as a child but had to undergo a confirmation ceremony before marrying Prince William back in 2011.
