Let’s be real, folks. Michelle Obama has spent plenty of time at the White House, and she’s also visited Buckingham Palace on numerous occasions. So, who better to settle the ultimate debate: which residence reigns supreme when it comes to the grub? On Tuesday, Feb. 27, the former First Lady appeared at Klick Health’s MUSE event in NYC, where she shared her take on this pressing question. Spoiler alert: the White House takes the cake—or should I say pie? “Oh, the White House, without a doubt,” she said during a panel discussion. “I don’t mean to offend anyone, but American food is just better.”

Barack Obama’s Sweet Tooth: Pie at the White House
Now, let’s talk about the sweet stuff. Former president Barack Obama has been known to rave about the desserts served up at the White House. He once admitted to the Associated Press that both he and Michelle had a hard time resisting the pastry chef's creations. “The pastry chef here makes the best pie I’ve ever tasted, and that is causing big problems for Michelle and myself,” he said. “Whatever pie you like, he will make it and it will be the best pie you’ve ever eaten. And so we are trying to figure out how to resist ordering pie every night.” Sounds like a delicious dilemma, doesn’t it?

Golden Plates at Buckingham Palace
While Michelle may prefer the White House when it comes to food, she admits that Buckingham Palace has its own charm—especially when it comes to the flatware. “When we were served at the state dinner—you know how we have chargers and they’re gold, so you sit down, and everything is gold,” she explained. “The plate that I thought was the charger, that was the plate. They put food on the gold charger because that was their plate. I said, ‘You win. You win on the plates. You got us beat.’ Their rose garden? Much bigger.”
Michelle’s Memoir: A Peek into Her Journey
Michelle recently revealed new details about her upcoming memoir, Becoming, and we can’t help but wonder if it’ll include more inside stories from her time at the White House. “Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience. It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life,” she wrote on Instagram. “In this book, I talk about my roots and how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story,” she added. And neither can we!
