A Beloved Character and Tragic Loss
Glenn Quinn, the talented actor who brought Mark Healy to life on Roseanne, was a cherished presence on the show from 1990 to 1997. Tragically, Glenn passed away in 2002 at the young age of 32, leaving fans heartbroken. Now, with the exciting reboot of Roseanne returning to ABC, many viewers are curious about how the show addresses Mark's absence. Let's dive into the story behind this decision and how the show pays tribute to Glenn's legacy.
Glenn Quinn's Untimely Passing
On December 3, 2002, the entertainment world lost a bright star when Glenn Quinn was found by a close friend after succumbing to an accidental heroin overdose in Hollywood. Glenn's untimely death shocked fans and the Roseanne cast alike. As Mark Healy was such a beloved character—Becky Conner's husband and David Healy's brother—the writers felt it was crucial to honor Glenn's memory in the reboot's storyline. Actress Lecy Goranson, who reprises her role as Becky, revealed that the entire revival is dedicated to Glenn's memory, ensuring his legacy lives on through the show.

Feeling His Presence
Lecy Goranson shared heartfelt words with Access Hollywood on April 11, explaining how the cast felt Glenn's presence during filming. "It was incredibly powerful," she said. "The show is dedicated to his memory and his life. While we were shooting, we all felt his presence with us, even the new crew members who didn't know him back in the day. They had an intuition, a sense that he was there with us." Lecy emphasized Glenn's wonderful, generous spirit, adding that celebrating his memory and acknowledging his loss felt right for the cast and crew.
Addressing Mark's Absence
Executive producer Bruce Helford confirmed last winter to Pop Sugar that Mark's passing would be addressed in the new episodes. Given the show's naturalistic tone, it was important to tackle this storyline authentically. "Becky is single now, and we all had great affection for Glenn," Helford explained. "We wanted to honor him, so Mark comes up a couple of times throughout the nine episodes." In fact, Darlene Conner and David Healy named their son Mark in the new storyline, a touching tribute to Glenn's character.

Mark's Death and Its Impact on Becky
In the reboot's premiere on March 27, Mark's passing was mentioned, and the episode "Eggs Over, Not Easy" revealed more about his death. While the exact cause wasn't disclosed, Becky revealed that she and Mark were hoping to start a family before his untimely death. Since then, Becky has essentially put her life on hold, struggling to move forward as others around her do. Lecy Goranson shared with Variety that Becky hasn't fully processed her grief. "She's a strong woman who's been through a lot," Lecy said. "Losing her husband has taken a significant toll on her, and viewers will see that unfold in upcoming episodes."
