Hey there, friends! Tatum O'Neal has been through her fair share of ups and downs. From a tough divorce with tennis legend John McEnroe to battling addiction and enduring family drama with her dad, Ryan O'Neal, life hasn't always been a walk in the park for her. But guess what? Tatum's sitting down with Closer Weekly for an exclusive interview, and she's opening up about how life has turned a new corner. She's diving into her role in the latest film, God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness, and sharing how much joy she finds in being a devoted mom to her three kids—Kevin, 31, Sean, 30, and Emily, 26. Life may have been a rollercoaster, but Tatum is more excited than ever about the road ahead.
Building Better Bonds
As time passes, Tatum, now 54, says her relationship with her kids has evolved for the better. "You know, it's funny," she tells Closer, "we have so much in common now. It's like we've become comrades. We're really there for each other, and that brings me so much happiness." Despite these positive changes, her relationship with ex-husband John McEnroe remains a bit complicated. Tatum shares, "Let me tell you, I was the one who left the marriage, and if you've ever seen John mad, you know he doesn't let go easily. He doesn't bounce back to being happy overnight." Yet, she remains hopeful. "Even after all these years, I keep trying. I keep pushing to find a better understanding and a more respectful dialogue—for the kids' sake. It hasn't been easy, but I refuse to give up."

On Her Dad, Ryan O’Neal
When it comes to her relationship with her dad, Ryan O'Neal, Tatum admits there's still some tension. "You know, I think he's still pretty mad at me, and I'm not entirely sure why," she confides with Closer. "Some people just hold onto grudges, and all you can do is focus on your part. You can only take care of your side of the street." Tatum's approach is one of resilience and grace. She's learned to navigate life's challenges by staying grounded and leaning on her support system. "Look, I've hit some rock-bottom moments, but I never wanted to stay there because of the love I have for my children," she explains. "Whenever I need strength, I turn to my close friends, my therapist, and, of course, my kids. They've been my rock."
Reflecting on her journey, Tatum adds, "I feel like I'm more grounded now. I know myself better, but it took me a long time to figure things out. Honestly, I just wish I had the wisdom back then that I have now."
