Hey there, friends! Can you believe it? Haley Joy Kotb, the absolute cutest bundle of joy, is already one year old! Yes, you heard that right. Hoda Kotb's daughter is celebrating her first trip around the sun today, Wednesday, February 14. But guess what? Since Hoda is currently in PyeongChang covering the Winter Olympics for Today, she decided to throw a little early birthday bash for her precious Haley Joy. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Hoda, 53, shared her celebration with her followers. “It’s already Valentine’s Day in South Korea and I am missing my Valentine’s baby!” she wrote. “We celebrated little Haley’s birthday before I left. Admittedly, I could have been a bit better with camera placement.” And let me tell you, that camera angle didn’t matter one bit because that little girl of hers is pure magic.
But Hoda wasn't done there. She came back to Instagram later to share a few more adorable photos from Haley's first birthday celebration. The first picture was a close-up of a homemade cake with frosting that read, “Yay Haley!” Can you imagine how much love went into making that cake? It’s such a sweet and personal touch. Then, she shared two more images of herself holding her little girl while proudly displaying the cake. After these snapshots went live, Hoda’s 777K Instagram followers wasted no time showering Haley with birthday wishes. It’s truly heartwarming to see so much love and support for this adorable family.

One follower commented, “Happy Birthday, Haley Joy! I’m sure your momma is missing you!” Another added, “Love that her first birthday cake was made with love from her momma!” Hoda and her Today co-stars Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker are currently in PyeongChang, South Korea, for two weeks covering the 2018 Winter Olympics. And just like Hoda, Savannah, 46, is a mom who had to leave her two young kids, daughter Vale, 3, and son Charley, 1, at home in NYC while she worked abroad. Can you imagine how tough that must be?
Being a Mom and Covering the Olympics: A Balancing Act
During a recent joint interview, both Hoda and Savannah opened up about the challenges of being away from their children while reporting from South Korea. “It’s an adjustment. There’s no question. When you’re a mom, your heart is always where your kids are,” Savannah shared with Entertainment Tonight. Hoda chimed in with a story about Savannah’s daughter FaceTiming her during a game of Bananagrams. “She was spelling words and it was like the coolest little moment, and that will sustain us,” Hoda explained. These little moments of connection are what keep them going while they’re away from their families.
The Power of Friendship in Tough Times
Thankfully, Hoda and Savannah have each other to lean on during this time. “We’re lucky, we don’t travel all that often. This is unusual that we’re gone this long, so we’re holding onto each other, and we’re having a great time and being in the moment — and we’re going to race home to those babies,” Savannah added. It’s so inspiring to see how these two powerhouse moms support each other while balancing their demanding jobs and the love they have for their families.
