Let me tell you a story about Iman, the legendary supermodel, actress, and entrepreneur. She’s had plenty of amazing moments in her life, but when I asked her about the happiest day of her life, she didn’t hesitate. “The day I met my husband,” she told Closer Weekly in an exclusive interview. She went on to explain, “We’d both been married before, and we were at the right place in our lives to meet. It was like destiny brought us together, and we fell in love.”
Now, we all know who her husband was—music legend David Bowie. They tied the knot in 1992 and stayed together until his passing in January 2016 from liver cancer at the age of 69. Life hasn’t been easy for Iman since then. “We’ve had a tough couple of years,” she admitted at the launch of the Jay Manuel Beauty Retail Experience on October 25, 2017, in New York City. Just two months after David’s death, her mother also passed away. But through it all, Iman credits her family for keeping her grounded and moving forward.

Iman, now 62, is fully focused on raising her 17-year-old daughter, Alexandria Jones, whom she shares with David. “She’s my whole world right now,” Iman shared. “I’m trying to keep her safe and guide her as she steps into adulthood.” While she still feels David’s absence deeply, she tries to focus on the beautiful memories they created. “If it weren’t for David, I wouldn’t have Alexandria,” she revealed. “I never imagined having another child, but life has a way of surprising you.”
A New Chapter: Becoming a Grandmother
Iman’s life has taken another exciting turn recently—she’s become a grandma! David’s son, Duncan Jones, welcomed a baby boy named Stenton last year, and Iman’s older daughter, Zulekha Haywood (from a previous relationship), also had a baby girl named Lavinia. “This brings so much joy to my life,” Iman shared with a smile. “It’s like David is still with us, through his son and grandson. He’s part of this beautiful new chapter.”
Carrying On: Business and Legacy
Iman continues to run her successful businesses, Iman Cosmetics and Global Chic, which keeps her busy and inspired. But David’s memory is never far from her mind. “The world keeps his legacy alive, and that’s a beautiful thing,” she said. “But within our family, we feel him all the time. We see him in his grandson, in his son. He’s still with us in so many ways.” She added, “Falling in love with David changed my life in ways I could never have imagined.”
