Hey there, royal watchers! Let me tell you about a little incident involving Meghan Markle, the soon-to-be royal, that’s got tongues wagging. Reports say Meghan's been in princess training for months, but during a recent visit to Cardiff Castle in Wales with her fiancé, Prince Harry, she did something that’s considered a no-no in royal circles. Yep, you guessed it—she signed an autograph for a fan. For those who don’t know, members of the royal family aren’t supposed to do that for safety reasons. But wait, there’s more to the story.
Did Meghan Find a Clever Way Around the Rules?
Now, here’s where things get interesting. Meghan, ever the quick thinker, might’ve found a loophole in the royal protocol handbook. According to People magazine, when a 10-year-old named Caitlin Clark asked Meghan to sign her notepad, Meghan didn’t put her own name down. Instead, she wrote “Hi Kaitlin” and even doodled a cute heart and a smiley face. Now, you might be thinking, “But she misspelled Caitlin’s name!” Well, Caitlin didn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, she was over the moon. She told reporters, “I don’t really care. My heart is still racing. I’ve never gotten a royal autograph before. This is going to make everyone jealous.”
Why Can’t Royalty Sign Autographs?
So, why exactly is signing autographs such a big deal for the royals? According to a report by The Express, it’s all about safety. The long-standing rule is in place to prevent forgery. Imagine if someone got hold of a royal signature and used it for nefarious purposes! Prince Charles himself has been known to respond to autograph requests with a polite, “Sorry, they don’t allow me to do that.” But what can the royals do when they meet fans? Official protocol says they can shake hands, give hugs, chat, and even take pictures. Pretty cool, right?

Not the First Time Meghan’s Bent the Rules
This isn’t the first time Meghan’s been accused of breaking royal protocol. Since becoming Harry’s fiancée back in November 2017, she’s been spotted wearing her long, dark brown hair in messy buns—quite a contrast to her future sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, who always seems to have picture-perfect hair. Fans also wondered if the high-fashion Ralph & Russo gown Meghan wore during her official engagement photos with Harry broke the rules. Some thought the semi-sheer lace dress was a bit too daring for a royal-to-be. One journalist, Jacquelin Magnay, even said, “Sheer, expensive, showbiz. Prince Harry’s lass is breaking all the rules!”
Is Queen Elizabeth Softening Her Stance?
Interestingly, People recently reported that Queen Elizabeth has become more lenient about royal protocol than ever before. Ingrid Seward, author of My Husband & I, a new biography about Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, revealed, “It’s her age. She is easier-going. It’s refreshing that [the royal family] is prepared to bend a bit.” So maybe Meghan’s little infractions aren’t as scandalous as they seem. After all, times are changing, and the royal family is evolving with them.
