In an exclusive chat with Closer Weekly, the incredibly talented Tom Cullen, star of Knightfall, spilled the beans on what he misses most about his legendary days on Downton Abbey. And guess what? It’s none other than the one and only Maggie Smith. Yes, that Maggie Smith.
Now, here’s the scoop. During a lively Facebook Live session on Wednesday, Tom opened up about the special bond he shared with Maggie. He said, “We just clicked, and let me tell you, she’s a real character. I’m still in touch with many of my Downton Abbey pals, but unfortunately, not Maggie. She’s just too cool for that, you know? But hey, I’ve got some epic stories about her. She’s a blast to be around!” Tom may not be in constant contact with Maggie, but he did have the chance to reunite with some of his former co-stars on his new History channel series, Knightfall.

Tom went on to share some exciting updates about his new project, Knightfall. “Listen, we’ve got the legendary Mr. Carson, Jim Carter, playing the Pope in Knightfall. So, it was absolutely fantastic to reconnect with him. And Julian Ovenden, who was my love rival back in Downton Abbey, is now my rival in Knightfall. He’s absolutely killing it in this role. He’s my favorite character, hands down. You know what was really cool? I actually got to look Jim Carter in the eyes because he’s not playing the butler anymore. Let me tell you, that man has some beautiful eyes!”

Tom is absolutely thrilled about his latest project, and he couldn’t wait to tell us all about it. “This show is epic. It’s fast-paced, full of action, and it’s so much fun. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes it even more entertaining. Knightfall is all about the Knights Templar, a fascinating medieval warrior monk sect. These guys were some of the most elite fighters of their time. Legend has it they were entrusted with guarding the Holy Grail. The show is set in Paris in 1306 and delves into the complex relationship between the King of France and the Templars. It’s a deep dive into the politics and inner workings of this mysterious sect. Trust me, it’s going to be awesome!”
