Nicole Kidman’s Golden Globes Speech Leaves Fans Questioning Her Choices
On Sunday, January 7, Nicole Kidman took home the prestigious Best Actress in a Movie or Limited Series award at the Golden Globes. While her win was celebrated by fans and critics alike, her acceptance speech sparked a fair bit of controversy. During her heartfelt moment on stage, Nicole expressed her gratitude to her youngest daughters, Sunday and Faith, but notably left out her older children, Isabella and Connor. In her speech, Nicole said, “First cab off the rank, that means my daughters are still awake so [Sunday], Faith, I love you. I’m bringing this home to you babies.”
The omission of her older children didn’t go unnoticed by many eagle-eyed viewers. Nicole Kidman, who is a proud mother of four, has two daughters from her marriage to singer Keith Urban—Sunday, 9, and Faith, 6. Additionally, she shares two children with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise: daughter Isabella, 25, and son Connor, 22. After her speech, a wave of criticism washed over social media. Some people took to Twitter to voice their disappointment. “Nicole Kidman’s continued refusal to acknowledge that she has more than two children seriously makes me sick,” one person wrote, as reported by Page Six. Another added, “Nicole thanked her mom, named her sisters, mentioned her ‘two daughters’ with Keith Urban by name, but did not mention her children with Tom Cruise. WTF? #GoldenGlobes.”

Not the First Time: A Pattern of Omission
This isn't the first instance where Nicole has faced backlash for not mentioning her older children during award shows. In September, the 50-year-old star left Connor and Isabella out of her Emmy Awards acceptance speech. During that speech, Nicole said, “I have two little girls, Sunday and Faith, and my darling Keith. This is yours. I want my little girls to have this on their shelf and to look at it and go, ‘Every time my mommy didn’t put me to bed, it’s because of this. I got something!’” However, a few months later in November, Nicole did acknowledge her “four extraordinary children” while accepting an award at the Glamour Woman of the Year awards.
Complicated Relationship with Older Children Sparks Speculation
Nicole’s relationship with her older children, Isabella and Connor, has been the subject of much speculation for years. Back in 2007, Nicole revealed to GMTV that Connor and Isabella refer to her as Nicole instead of mom. Then, in 2010, she disclosed that they had chosen to live with their dad, Tom Cruise, following her 2001 divorce. To this day, many believe that the Church of Scientology, which Tom, Isabella, and Connor are members of, has created a rift between Nicole (who is not a member) and her adopted kids. This ongoing narrative has fueled the public's curiosity and concern about Nicole's family dynamics.
