There’s something truly special about a Hollywood love story that defies the odds and stands the test of time. Dustin Hoffman and his wife, Lisa Hoffman, have created just that. With nearly 37 years of marriage under their belts, they’re one of the most enduring couples in an industry where relationships often come and go. Lisa recently opened up about their love in an exclusive chat with Closer, and let’s just say, it’s a tale worth celebrating!
Here’s the thing: In Hollywood, longevity is a big deal. Lisa joked about their marital milestone by saying, “In Hollywood, it’s like dog years—you have to multiply that by seven.” But beyond the humor, there’s real depth to their bond. Almost two decades after saying “I do,” Lisa shared that not only are they still in love, but their affection for each other continues to grow stronger with each passing year. That’s the kind of love we can all aspire to!

Believe it or not, Lisa and Dustin’s connection began long before they even knew each other. Their families were close—Dustin’s mom was friends with Lisa’s grandmother. But they didn’t officially meet until a family barbecue when Dustin was 27 and Lisa was just 10 years old. At that barbecue, Dustin spent most of his time hanging out with Lisa and her younger brother, who was eight at the time. It was during this early encounter that Lisa knew Dustin would be the one for her someday.
Love at First Sight... Well, Sort of
“Dustin was telling us jokes, playing the piano, and encouraging me to dance around the living room,” Lisa recalled in a 2007 interview with Daily Mail Online. She went on to share a sweet memory: “After we got together, my grandmother reminded me that later that day I had said, ‘I hope he waits for me because I want to marry him.’” Can you imagine being that certain about someone at such a young age? Talk about destiny!
