Hey there! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of Melania Trump, the former First Lady of the United States. While many people know her as Donald Trump’s wife, there’s so much more to her story, especially when it comes to her family. Today, we're going to explore Melania's background, her parents, her siblings, and even some interesting facts about her life. So, buckle up and let’s get started!
Who Are Melania Trump’s Parents?
Let’s start with Melania’s parents. Her mother is Amalija Knavs, who is 73 years old, and her father is Viktor Knavs, 74. Interestingly, Viktor is only about two and a half years older than his son-in-law, Donald Trump. According to Bojan Požar’s book, Melania Trump – The Inside Story, Viktor was once a member of the Communist Party during Melania’s childhood, but the Knavs family wasn’t part of the Slovenian elite. Instead, they lived a modest life. Both of Melania’s parents worked in car and motorcycle dealerships for a state-owned vehicle manufacturer, ensuring a stable but not extravagant lifestyle for their family.

Amalija, Melania’s mom, also worked as a pattern-maker at a children’s clothing manufacturer. It’s clear that both parents were hardworking individuals who provided a stable environment for Melania and her siblings to grow up in.
Are Melania Trump’s Parents US Citizens? Where Do They Live Now?
According to the Associated Press, Melania Trump’s parents, Amalija and Viktor Knavs, became naturalized US citizens on August 9 during a private ceremony held at a federal building in New York City. Donald and Melania weren’t present at the event. Their lawyer, Michael Wildes, mentioned to reporters outside the ceremony that Amalija and Viktor’s citizenship process was no different from anyone else’s. This statement was echoed by People magazine.
In February, Wildes also reported that both Viktor and Amalija had been lawfully admitted to the US as permanent residents, meaning they had green cards but hadn’t yet become naturalized citizens. The United States requires individuals to live in the country for five years before applying for citizenship, so it’s unclear exactly how long they’ve been residing here. However, after relocating from Slovenia following Melania’s marriage to Donald Trump, they lived with the couple in their NYC penthouse at Trump Tower to stay close to their daughter and grandson, Barron Trump.
Now that the Trump family resides in the White House, many are curious about where Melania’s parents live. While they once lived together, Viktor and Amalija have reportedly not moved into the White House with their daughter and her family. Given the absence of the First Family, it’s likely they’ve stayed in the Trump Tower penthouse, which offers plenty of space.
