Concern for George H.W. Bush: Hospitalized Once Again

Hey there, friends. Let’s take a moment to send some positive vibes to George H.W. Bush. The 41st President of the United States is currently being treated at the hospital for low blood pressure and fatigue, according to a statement shared by his spokesperson, Jim McGrath, on May 27 via Twitter. This latest hospitalization has many people concerned, especially after the emotional passing of his wife, Barbara, just last month.

Here’s what Jim McGrath had to say in the official statement: "President George H.W. Bush was taken to Southern Maine Health Care today after experiencing low blood pressure and fatigue." But don’t worry too much—he’s doing okay. "He will likely remain there for a few days for observation," the statement continued. "The former president is awake and alert, and not in any discomfort." That’s good news, right? It’s always reassuring to hear that he’s alert and comfortable, even if he’s just taking it easy for a bit.

Recent Health Challenges for George H.W. Bush

This isn’t the first time George Sr. has been hospitalized recently. Just two days after the funeral of his beloved Barbara Bush, George was admitted to the hospital on April 23 due to an infection that spread to his blood. At the time, his spokesperson shared an update: "President Bush was admitted to the Houston Methodist Hospital yesterday morning after contracting an infection that spread to his blood. He is responding to treatments and appears to be recovering. We will issue additional updates as events warrant." It’s been a tough few weeks for the Bush family, and you can feel the weight of it in their words.

  • Even before this recent hospitalization, the Bush family was already worried about George’s health after the passing of his wife. Losing someone you’ve been married to for 73 years has to be incredibly difficult, both emotionally and physically. So, it’s no surprise that his health has been a top priority for those closest to him.

    Health History and Vascular Parkinsonism

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time George has faced health challenges in recent years. The former President continues to battle vascular parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson’s disease that has left him reliant on a wheelchair since 2012. In January 2017, George was hospitalized and underwent a procedure to treat an acute respiratory problem caused by pneumonia. He spent some time in the intensive care unit during that stay. Then, in April of last year, he was admitted to the hospital again for another bout of pneumonia. It’s been a tough road for this American icon, but he’s shown incredible resilience throughout it all.
