The Wedding Day

Harry and Meghan's big day took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The ceremony commenced at 12 p.m. UK time, which translates to 7 a.m. EST and 4 a.m. PST in the U.S. This spring was an exceptionally exciting period for the royal family. Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their third child, Prince Louis, on April 23. Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 92nd birthday on April 21, while Kate and William marked their seventh wedding anniversary on April 29. To top it off, Princess Charlotte turned three years old on May 2. It was a season filled with joy and celebration for the royals.

The Venue: St. George’s Chapel

Harry and Meghan chose St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle as their wedding venue. Meghan, who was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at Northwestern University, exchanged vows in this historic location. Kensington Palace previously shared, “Windsor is a very special place for Prince Harry, and he and Ms. Markle have regularly spent time there during the last year. They are delighted that the beautiful grounds of Windsor Castle will be where they begin their lives as a married couple.” After the ceremony, Harry and Meghan took a romantic carriage ride through the streets of Windsor. They departed Windsor Castle via Castle Hill and continued along High Street through Windsor Town before returning to the castle along the Long Walk. Kensington Palace expressed, “They hope this short journey will provide an opportunity for more people to come together around Windsor and to enjoy the atmosphere of this special day.”

  • Following the ceremony, the newlyweds celebrated with friends and family at a lunchtime wedding reception held at St. George’s Hall. That evening, Prince Charles hosted another party for the couple at Frogmore House. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, officiated the royal marriage ceremony, joined by The Most Reverend Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, who delivered the address at the wedding.

According to reports, Harry didn't want his wedding to be extravagant, making Windsor Castle the ideal setting for a more intimate celebration. “Pomp and pageantry is the last thing he would want. I can see him wanting to get married at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. It would stop it from turning into a total media circus and give the day a sense of privacy that Harry so badly craves,” a source revealed.

    Meghan's Stunning Wedding Dress

Meghan's breathtaking silk wedding dress was designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy. The gown featured an open bateau neckline and sculpted waist, while her delicate veil — made from silk tulle — included a trim of hand-embroidered flowers in silk threads and organza. To complete her look, Meghan wore Queen Mary’s Sapphire Bandeau Tiara on her wedding day. There were rumors that Meghan might change into a second wedding dress for her royal reception.

It was speculated that Meghan's close friend, Misha Nonoo — who introduced her to Harry! — and her longtime stylist, Jessica Mulroney, might have helped create her wedding day gown. There was also talk that Meghan could have collaborated with two of Princess Diana’s favorite designers, Catherine Walker and Amanda Wakeley, or the designer of Kate Middleton’s 2011 royal wedding gown, Alexander McQueen.

In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, royal family hairstylist Sean Donaldson of Sean Donaldson Hair predicted Meghan would wear her hair in a loose updo on her wedding day, and he was spot on! “Being British and knowing the royal family, and seeing many royal weddings, she’ll be keeping her hair long for sure. I would imagine she probably would soften the color around her face just a little bit. I imagine that she would very lightly — by one or one and a half shades — would lighten around the hairline,” he said.

“I think she’s going to bring in her own edge and own style, but at the same time she’s still marrying into the royal family and they have their ways and their looks, so I would imagine that Meghan’s hair will go up,” he continued. “I can’t imagine her doing half up half down because I think she’s going to want it distinguished between her and Kate, since this is the next brother, son of Princess Diana — and this will be the next big royal family since Kate and William’s.”
