The Return of a Beloved Family
It’s official—America missed the Conners more than we thought! On Tuesday, March 27, ABC brought back "Roseanne" for its first new episode since the show originally wrapped up in 1997. Millions of viewers tuned in to reconnect with the iconic TV family in the reboot premiere. Fans couldn’t get enough of the Conners, and the show quickly became a ratings powerhouse, dominating its competition week after week.
According to Variety, the reboot even topped almost every other show last Tuesday night, with only The Voice standing in its way. But don’t count "Roseanne" out just yet. With its impressive numbers and fan support, it’s only a matter of time before it claims the top spot again.
Reboot Success: Another Season on the Way
It didn’t take long for ABC to recognize the overwhelming success of the "Roseanne" reboot. Shortly after the premiere, the network announced that the show would return for another season. Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, expressed her excitement in a statement: “We’re thrilled that America has welcomed the Conner family back into their homes. The show is as fresh and relevant today as it was when it left the air 21 years ago. We can’t wait to see what the Roseanne team has in store for next year.”

With the Conners back in the spotlight, it’s clear that the show’s humor, heart, and relatability continue to resonate with audiences across the country.
Even the President Tuned In
Believe it or not, even President Donald Trump couldn’t resist the charm of the "Roseanne" reboot. Roseanne Barr revealed that the POTUS, who she supports both in the show and in real life, reached out to her personally to congratulate her on the show’s success. “It was pretty exciting—I’ll tell you that much,” Roseanne told Good Morning America during a phone interview on Thursday, March 28. “It was just very, very sweet of him to congratulate us.”
Roseanne continued, “He’s just happy for me. I’ve known him for many years, and he’s done a lot of nice things for me over the years. It was just a friendly conversation about working, television, and ratings.”
During a late April interview, Roseanne shared more about her admiration for the President. “I’ve met him several times when he was just a civilian, or whatever you call it, not the president, just a showbusiness person, and he was always nice to me. He said, ‘Congratulations on the ratings,’ because he’s really into ratings like I am,” she explained.
Ratings That Speak for Themselves
The reboot’s one-hour premiere episode drew in an impressive 18.2 million viewers and earned a 5.1 rating in the highly coveted 18-to-49-year-old demographic, according to E! News. And these numbers don’t even include DVR and time-shifting figures, which would likely push the ratings even higher.
ABC proudly announced that the new "Roseanne" ratings surpass those of all comedy telecasts since the 2014 season premiere of The Big Bang Theory. It’s also the network’s highest-rated entertainment telecast in six years among young adults, as well as its best performance in that Tuesday night time slot since 1996.

Interestingly, the revival premiere even attracted more viewers than the 1997 series finale did. While "Into That Good Night" was thought to be the last we’d see of the Conner family, that episode only garnered 16.6 million viewers. Although neither installment can compare to the show’s first season, which averaged 23.8 million viewers, the reboot’s ratings are undeniably impressive given the multitude of TV options available today.

Roseanne, 65, is beyond grateful for the outpouring of support from fans. “I am so grateful to the fans of the Roseanne show for giving it a good premiere rating,” Roseanne tweeted. “You are all wonderful. Here is to making America laugh and talk again. Love you.” The success of "Roseanne" underscores the current nostalgia wave sweeping broadcast television. Shows like "Will & Grace," "The X-Files," and "Murphy Brown" are all making triumphant returns, proving that audiences still crave the comfort of classic programming.
ABC is surely hoping that this week’s "Roseanne" viewers will stick around for the remaining episodes this season. With beloved actors like Johnny Galecki, Estelle Parsons, Natalie West, and Sandra Bernhard reprising their roles, and even John Goodman’s character back from the dead, the show is set to keep fans entertained and engaged.
