When the iconic cast of America’s beloved sitcom, Roseanne, reunited for Closer Weekly, they shared what it's really like to win the hearts of millions all over again. This isn’t just a show; it’s a family. And that’s exactly what fans fell in love with from the very beginning.
Back in the Saddle: The Magic Returns
When the Roseanne cast stepped back onto the familiar living room set two decades after the original series ended, it felt like no time had passed at all. Co-star Laurie Metcalf opened up to Closer, saying, “Being in the same room with everybody again was the best part. It was like slipping on an old pair of shoes—comfortable, familiar, and perfect.”
Fans felt that same connection when the reboot premiered in March, instantly shooting to the top of the ratings. Costume designer Erin Quigley, one of many original crew members who returned, told Closer, “No one was surprised because there was a palpable sense of enthusiasm and excitement about how well the writers had tapped into the heart of the original series. It resonates because it deals with universal issues that anyone can relate to.”

Sara Gilbert: The Driving Force Behind the Revival
It was Sara Gilbert, who played Darlene, who championed the sitcom’s revival. “If the show was a car, Sara is the engine this time,” Michael Fishman, who plays her brother D.J., told Closer. “She provided the spark to get all of us moving again.”
Quigley added, “Sara’s a ball of energy and optimism. She’s deeply invested in the quality of the show—this was her family growing up. She brought everyone together with a vision to make it even better than before.”
Season 11: The Dream Continues
The show has already been picked up for another season, and filming will resume later this month. Michael Fishman expressed his excitement, telling Closer, “Season 11 is a dream come true. We had so many ideas that didn’t make it into Season 10, and now we have so much more to explore as a family.”
“The biggest takeaway from the show, and I think fans agree, is learning how to deal with tough times with humor,” Michael continued. “Trying to stick together—that’s the core of what makes Roseanne so special.”

“It felt like stepping into a time warp,” Quigley said, adding that it took “about 30 seconds” for everyone to fall back into their roles. Laurie concluded, “It’s like we were a family for nine straight seasons, working every day together and forming an unbreakable bond. Then, to revisit it after 20 years have passed, you can’t buy that kind of chemistry. It’s real, and it’s magical.”
