Hey there, let’s dive into the fascinating world of Hoda Kotb. This remarkable woman, known for her role as an anchor on "Today," has captured hearts far and wide. Now, it looks like love is back on the table for Hoda as she's deeply connected with her boyfriend, Joel Schiffman. Could this mean another trip down the aisle? If it happens, it would mark a new chapter of marital happiness after her first marriage to Burzis Kanga ended a decade ago. Stick around to uncover more about Hoda and Burzis' relationship!
A Love Story That Began in the Crescent City
Hoda's first love story started in the lively streets of New Orleans, where she met Burzis Kanga at a Valentine's Day fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Back then, Hoda was a local news anchor, carving her career in the city that never sleeps. When she moved to NYC to join "Dateline NBC," their romance continued, albeit on and off, for several years. Finally, in May 2005, Burzis decided it was time to make it official. They said "I do" in a picturesque ceremony in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, in December that same year. Hoda, reflecting on her married life in a 2006 interview with New Orleans Living, said, "If I would have known it was this much fun, I probably would have done it a long time ago!"

At the time, Burzis was making waves in New Orleans as the head coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis teams at the University of New Orleans. But life threw him a curveball when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city, flooding his apartment and disrupting his entire world. Despite these challenges, Hoda remained optimistic, telling a magazine, "I think he’s just finding his way, you know. But it’s been good."
When Love Fades: The End of a Chapter
Unfortunately, not all love stories have happy endings. By February 2007, Hoda had filed for divorce, and their marriage officially ended a year later. Burzis opened up about the split earlier this year, explaining, "We had some differences. My father was ill. She was ill [with breast cancer]. It was a difficult time." Reflecting on the divorce, Burzis admitted he was surprised when Hoda filed but has since gained perspective. "The divorce happened under difficult conditions," he said. "Those were personal reasons for both of us. In hindsight, there was a level of immaturity on my part, mistakes I made. It was unfortunate we were married for a short time. It’s a shame it transpired that way."
Burzis also revealed that the fast-paced life in NYC was overwhelming for him, as he was accustomed to the laid-back lifestyle of New Orleans. Despite the challenges, he doesn't regret their time together. "I will always cherish our memories," he shared. "She is the epitome of class. I think the world of her. We had great memories together."
