Let's talk about Tyra Banks, the iconic supermodel who has always been a beacon of confidence and self-love. Recently, she's been candid about her personal journey with weight and body image. In a heartfelt interview with People magazine, Tyra revealed her 30-pound weight loss and how it’s helped her reclaim her sense of self. She’s made it clear that she no longer cares what people think about her appearance, and that’s something we can all admire.
For years, Tyra has battled with body image issues, feeling like her body wasn’t truly her own. “I used to feel like my body was not mine,” she confessed in the interview. “There were times when I felt too thin or too big, and I thought I was betraying people if I lost weight. But now, I’ve come to a place where I’m comfortable in my own skin, no matter what.”

Tyra, who stands nearly six feet tall, decided to shed some weight after dealing with an ankle injury. Her doctor recommended losing weight to speed up her recovery, and she took the advice to heart. “I lost 30 pounds,” she proudly shared. “And guess what? She was right. Now I’m a different body type, but I don’t feel like I’m betraying anyone. I’ve still got curves, I’ve still got boobs!”
Putting Her Son First
Before embarking on this weight loss journey, Tyra intentionally gained weight to be “bigger” for her son, York, whom she welcomed in 2016 via surrogate. “When he was first born, I wanted to be bigger for him,” she explained. “Maybe because it was through surrogacy, I felt that being bigger was a way to show love. I wanted him to feel that cushion and nurture.”
But after dropping the extra weight, Tyra admitted she feels physically amazing. “I feel great,” she said with a laugh. “And having a son later in life, I want to be able to hold him, run around, chase him, and not get spasms! It’s all about staying healthy and active for him.”
Indulging in Moderation
When it comes to her diet, Tyra confessed she’s all about balance. “I believe in moderation, but you have to indulge sometimes,” she shared. “My mom and I together? We’re dangerous. We love ice cream! But at the end of the day, it’s all about finding what works for you and feeling good about yourself.”
We couldn’t agree more, Tyra. You look incredible no matter what, and your confidence is inspiring to so many people out there.
