Hey there! In just a few days, the world will be watching as Kate Middleton and Prince William introduce their third child. The delivery will take place at the iconic St Mary’s Hospital’s Lindo Wing in London, where both Prince George and Princess Charlotte were born. This prestigious wing has also welcomed other famous babies, including George and Amal Clooney’s twins. But have you ever wondered what it’s like to give birth inside the Lindo Wing? Well, one mom shared her experience, and it’s quite the story!
In an interview with HELLO, London mom Katherine Filkins, who welcomed her daughter seven months ago, said she felt like royalty when she gave birth at the Lindo Wing. The 38-year-old mom revealed that the maternity package included luxuries like afternoon tea, post-delivery massages, and even champagne. But here’s the kicker—if you want to experience this royal treatment, be prepared to shell out a hefty $8,400 per night!

“The Lindo Wing is a hospital, but it’s almost like staying in a fancy hotel. The service is top-notch,” Katherine said. “You’re treated to luxurious toiletries, and the food is incredible. They even have a wine list, so if you’re in the mood for champagne, it’s there for the asking. After the birth, they bring you a delightful afternoon tea for you and your family to enjoy.”
A Royal Experience
Katherine endured an intense 81-hour labor before having a C-section, but she said the staff at the Lindo Wing made sure she was well taken care of throughout the entire process. “We were given birthing balls, and they encouraged us to lower the lights to create a calming environment. A dedicated midwife was always by my side, checking on me regularly,” she explained. “My husband was treated just as well. They even set up a comfortable bed for him, and he had his choice of meals from the menu every day. It was a truly remarkable experience.”
Katherine and her husband had booked a standard room for the birth, but because the Lindo Wing was fully booked, they were upgraded to one of the deluxe suites. “We were told that this was where the royals also stay. It was a spacious room, and we could comfortably accommodate all our relatives the next day. We could easily fit six people in there,” Katherine recalled.
Post-Birth Luxury
“Within the Lindo Wing, pretty much anything you can think of is available for your prenatal care and afterward. If you want a massage, they can arrange for someone to come in. If you’d like the baby to go to the nursery, they have an exceptional one,” Katherine continued. “They encourage parents to take breaks, which is something you don’t often get in a regular hospital setting. So, if you need some downtime, they’ll take the baby away for a while. We were thrilled to have the chance to give birth where the royals had their babies too!”

The medical team that helped Duchess Kate give birth to her first two children, George and Charlotte, not only had to keep the details of her pregnancy a secret, but they were also required to abstain from drinking alcohol in the months leading up to the birth while on standby. The team of 20, which included two obstetricians, three midwives, three anesthesiologists, four surgical staff members, two special care staffers, four pediatricians, one lab technician (for blood tests), and three or four managers, were handpicked by the royal family to assist Kate.
Strict Rules for the Medical Team
Anesthesiologist Dr. Johanna Bray explained the no drinking rule, telling People it was essential in case of an unexpected call. “We weren’t actually in the delivery room, but we were behind the scenes, ready to jump in if needed. We were all on call for three months—my husband handled childcare for that entire time! You never know when you might get called,” she said. “You need to be in town and available. If you’re at a party, you need to have your car keys ready. No drinking!”
