Closer Weekly has just dropped a juicy scoop about HGTV's beloved couple, Chip and Joanna Gaines. In an exclusive interview, their close friend Jimmy Don Holmes reveals the Gaines family's biggest news yet: they’re expecting their fifth child!
Jimmy Don Holmes, whose JDH Iron Designs business often features on the hit show Fixer Upper, shared his thoughts with Closer. “Just think about it,” he says. “They’re so lucky to be expanding their family, and that fifth child is going to be so blessed to have Chip and Joanna as parents.”

“Can you picture that nursery?” Jimmy jokes. “Joanna’s probably already planned it out in her head a thousand times. And knowing Chip, he’s got a long list of names ready for either a boy or a girl.” He adds with a laugh, “But let’s be honest, Joanna might not go for any of them!”
Why Chip’s Paternal Instincts Make Him a Superdad
Jimmy goes on to explain why Chip’s parenting skills are so admired in their community. “Chip’s dad was an amazing father,” Jimmy explains, “so Chip grew up learning how to be a great dad. And his father-in-law? He’s one of the most incredible guys around, so Chip’s had some serious role models.”
But Jimmy believes Chip’s natural talent for fatherhood goes beyond just good guidance. “He’s just got it,” Jimmy says. “It’s in his DNA.”

Joanna: A Mom Who Puts Her Kids First
And Joanna? She’s just as admired for her dedication to motherhood. “She’s just such a kind person,” Jimmy shares. “If she’s got a meeting or something important, but her kids need her, she’ll drop everything. I’ve seen her sit in the grass and talk to them for 40 minutes, even if she didn’t have the time. She’s truly committed to being present for her kids.”
The Gaines Family: Preparing for Baby No. 5
Jimmy says that, above all, Chip and Joanna are focused on one thing: a healthy baby. “They already have such a wonderful family with Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie,” he says. “Now they’re just excited to welcome another little one into the mix.”
