At 68, Judith Light is not even considering the idea of retirement. In fact, she’s embracing her career with more enthusiasm than ever before. “I’m getting more work than I ever imagined, and I can’t wait to dive into it all,” the star of Transparent told Closer Weekly in an exclusive interview. This wasn’t always the case for the Tony-winning actress. Back in the day, Judith wasn’t sure she’d reach this level of success. “There were moments when I questioned everything, especially when I was offered a soap opera role 40 years ago,” she revealed. “I remember thinking, ‘I’m too good for this.’ But life has a way of teaching you lessons, and that decision ended up changing my life forever.” Judith, who earned her drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1970, knew deep down that she had more to offer, but it took some time to fully embrace that truth.

When Judith took on the role of Karen Wolek in One Life to Live back in 1977, playing a bored housewife turned prostitute, her perspective shifted dramatically. “I realized the complexity of the role and the caliber of actors I’d be working with,” she said. “It was a challenge I didn’t expect, but it was exactly what I needed to grow as an actress.” The role earned her two Daytime Emmys, proving that sometimes the opportunities we resist are the ones that push us the farthest.

Accepting the role of Karen Wolek wasn’t just a career move for Judith—it was a life-changing decision. “It made me realize I needed to transform not just as an actress, but as a person,” she explained. “I had to rethink everything about my life, from my mindset to my goals. It was a wake-up call that pushed me to become the best version of myself.” This transformation wasn’t limited to her career. It spilled over into every aspect of her life, making her more confident, more driven, and more fulfilled.

Passion Beyond Acting: Giving Back to the World

For Judith, acting is just one part of her life’s mission. She’s always been passionate about helping others, and her charitable work is a testament to that. “I’ve always believed in the power of service,” she said. “Whether it’s being a flu ambassador for a national flu awareness campaign or advocating for AIDS research, I want to make a difference.” Despite her packed schedule, Judith finds time to give back, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. “I wake up every morning excited about the day ahead,” she said. “There’s so much to do, and I’m grateful for every opportunity.”

A Career Still on the Rise

At 68, Judith Light is proof that age is just a number. Her career is thriving, her passions are stronger than ever, and her outlook on life is nothing short of inspiring. “I’ve learned that you can’t limit yourself,” she said. “There’s always more to explore, more to achieve, and more to give. And that’s what keeps me going.” Whether it’s on-screen or off-screen, Judith continues to inspire those around her with her dedication, her talent, and her unwavering spirit.
