It seems like the Barrymore charm is contagious! In a heartwarming interview, Drew Barrymore opened up about her two daughters, Olive, 5, and Frankie, 3, who are already showing an interest in following in their mom's footsteps. "They’re just like me when I was young! All they want to do is get on stage. It's like they've inherited the Barrymore gene," Drew, 43, laughed. "We went to see The Sound of Music, and they were like, 'Let me up on that stage!' We went to the Amazing Bubble Show, and again, they were like, 'We want to be on stage!' It's adorable and a little overwhelming at the same time!"
Drew comes from a family deeply rooted in Hollywood history and has been in the limelight since she was a child. Her first big role was in the iconic 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial when she was just seven years old. But despite her lifelong career in entertainment, Drew isn’t necessarily pushing her daughters to follow the same path. "Right now, I’d say Olive is more into animals and wants to be a veterinarian, and Frankie loves dancing and dreams of becoming a ballerina," Drew shared with Savannah Guthrie during a Today show appearance on March 20. "Who knows where their interests will take them as they grow?"

The Challenges of Balancing Career and Family
While Drew loves her career and has found immense success in Hollywood, she acknowledges the challenges of being away from her kids for extended periods. "It’s all in how you frame it," Drew explained. "Years ago, a friend gave me some advice that completely changed how I talk to my kids about work. If I say, 'I have to go to work, but don’t worry, I’ll be back soon,' it makes work sound like this big, scary thing that’s taking me away from them. And who wants to think of work as something negative?"
Instead, Drew opts for a more positive approach. "I tell them, 'I’m going to my awesome job, and I love it! But don’t worry, I’ll be right back.' It’s all about balance. I make sure to spend as much time as possible with them when I’m home, so they trust that I’ll always come back. It’s about teaching them that work is the path to achieving your dreams. They’ll grow up and want to do something meaningful in the world, and I want them to see work as a positive force in their lives."
Building Trust and Encouraging Dreams
Drew is determined to ensure her daughters understand the importance of pursuing their passions. "Work isn’t just something you have to do—it’s part of who you are and what you contribute to the world. I want my girls to grow up knowing that whatever they choose to do, they should love it. Whether it’s acting, dancing, or something else entirely, the key is to find joy in what you do," she added.
As Drew continues to juggle her thriving career and family life, she remains committed to fostering a supportive environment for her daughters. "I’ll always be there to cheer them on, no matter what they decide to pursue. For now, though, they’re just little kids who love the spotlight. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll all be on stage together!"
