In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, Dr. Phil, now 67, opened up about his friendship with the media powerhouse. "Oh, absolutely! We're in touch all the time. Oprah is one of our closest friends," he said. Dr. Phil emphasized how special this relationship is for both him and his wife, Robin McGraw. This level of trust and openness speaks volumes about the kind of person Oprah is and the profound impact she's had on Dr. Phil's life.

Dr. Phil's Journey: From the Couch to the Spotlight

While Dr. Phil loves nothing more than spending quality time with his family, including his adorable grandchildren, his career remains a top priority. Hosting The Dr. Phil Show is not just a job for him—it’s a calling. "He always says he feels honored to be 'the voice of America's common sense.' And when he says it, his face lights up," revealed an insider to Closer. Dr. Phil himself has expressed similar sentiments, saying, "I've been given a national platform, and I take the responsibility that comes with it very seriously. It's not just about me; it's about making a difference." This dedication is what keeps his audience coming back for more, year after year.

Passion and Purpose: Dr. Phil's Philosophy

Dr. Phil’s career trajectory hasn’t always been a straight line. In fact, it’s been anything but predictable. He’s taken bold steps, made tough decisions, and reinvented himself multiple times. "There has to be something that sets your soul on fire—whether it's your job or the impact you're having on the world," he explained. "It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it matters to you. If you wake up every day without something you're passionate about, it's time to make a change." This mindset is what propelled him forward when he decided to leave his thriving psychology practice in the '90s because it no longer fulfilled him.

Back then, Dr. Phil was at a crossroads. "I was letting days turn into weeks, months, and years without clarity about what I truly wanted," he recalled. "It hit me like a ton of bricks. I realized I had to take a risk, so I shut down my practice and said, 'I'm going to do something else.' And I did!" That leap of faith led him to co-found Courtroom Sciences Inc., a company that helps litigants prepare for jury trials. It was through this venture that he crossed paths with Oprah during her infamous beef industry lawsuit in 1996.

From Late-Night Talks to Lifelong Friendship

During those intense trial days, Oprah and Dr. Phil formed an unbreakable bond. "We'd have these deep conversations at 2 or 3 in the morning," he reminisced. "She's not just a client; she's a kindred spirit." Their hard work paid off when Oprah won her case, but their relationship didn't end there. In fact, it only grew stronger. Oprah introduced Dr. Phil to her massive audience, giving him the opportunity to share his expertise on her show. "She said, 'I want you to meet the man who gave me back to myself because I lost myself,'" Dr. Phil recalled. "That endorsement meant everything to me. It was humbling and life-changing."

And change it did. Dr. Phil launched his own show in 2002, which quickly became a ratings sensation. "I'll always be grateful to Oprah for believing in me," he said. "She gave me the chance to reach millions of people and make a real difference in their lives."
