Genevieve Gorder Opens Up About Returning to Trading Spaces

Hey there, design lovers! If you're anything like me, you're absolutely thrilled that Trading Spaces is making its way back to our screens. And guess what? TLC personality Genevieve Gorder recently sat down with Closer Weekly to dish on all the juicy details of what it's like being part of this iconic show's revival. She revealed that reuniting with her former co-stars was an emotional rollercoaster—so much so that she described it as "tearful and powerful." Can you believe some of these folks she hadn't seen in over a decade? That’s a long time to go without swapping design tips and laughs!

How Times Have Changed: The Tech Revolution in Design

Gorder also shared how the design world has completely transformed since the original run of Trading Spaces. Back then, we were still in the Stone Age of technology—no smartphones, no Pinterest, no Amazon Prime, and certainly no GPS. "The personalities and chemistry are all the same," she said, "but we’re just much better designers now!" Isn’t that wild? She added that the accessibility of affordable design tools has skyrocketed, which has changed both the industry and the expectations of homeowners. "We helped train a whole generation of design enthusiasts who are ready for the next big thing," she proudly noted.

The One Thing She’ll Miss: Frank, the Design Unicorn

While Gorder is thrilled to be back, there’s one aspect of the original show she'll definitely miss: Frank. "Frank is our resident unicorn," she joked. "He’s insightful, hilarious, and kind. Without him around, we get a little too weird." Clearly, Frank was the glue that held the group together. But don’t worry—Genevieve reassured fans that the magic of the team remains intact. "We all recognize that our sum together will always be bigger than any one of us alone—it’s like lightning in a bottle," she explained. It’s clear that working alongside familiar faces like Vern Yip, Ty Pennington, and Carter Oosterhouse brings back a lot of fond memories.

    Trading Spaces’ Big Comeback

Back in March, the news broke that this beloved 2000s series would be making a triumphant return. TLC President Nancy Daniels couldn’t contain her excitement, saying, "This is a big one. I am thrilled to announce that TLC’s most successful and most iconic series, Trading Spaces, is coming back!" Fans couldn’t have been happier to hear this. Alongside Genevieve, original designers Doug Wilson, Hildi Santo-Tomas, Vern Yip, Frank Bielic, and Laurie Smith, as well as carpenters Ty Pennington and Carter Oosterhouse, will all be returning for the revival. The show is set to hit TLC in 2018, and trust me, you won’t want to miss it!

    Design Tips for the Holidays

While chatting with Closer Weekly, Genevieve also shared some fantastic tips for decorating your home this holiday season. She partnered with Air Wick to promote their limited-edition seasonal scents and offered some advice: "More is more," she said. "Use inexpensive dried nature, branches, boughs, and crinkled leaves to dress your tables and add dimension to your Christmas tree." And let’s not forget about those flameless candles—they’re a must-have! "The power of scent is real," she emphasized. "I love Warm Apple Crumble and Woodland Pine from Air Wick. They instantly take you to that holiday place the moment you walk in the door." Now that’s what I call festive!
