Let's talk about Ivanka Trump. You probably associate the Trump family with extreme wealth, but here's something interesting: working in the White House isn't exactly a cash cow for Ivanka. At 36 years old, she's serving as a White House advisor to her dad, President Donald Trump. And guess what? Her annual salary for this high-profile gig? Zilch. Nada. Zero dollars.
According to The Associated Press, Ivanka isn't the only one skipping out on a paycheck. Her husband, Jared Kushner, is also working without a salary in the White House. And it doesn’t stop there—Reed Cornish, a Presidential assistant who's another real estate heir, has opted out of taking a salary too. Meanwhile, Gary Cohn, a former Goldman Sachs executive, is only accepting a modest $30,000 for his role as a White House aide. Talk about dedication—or maybe just deep pockets.

High Salaries in the White House: Who's Earning Big Bucks?
Here's the thing: while Ivanka and others may not be taking a salary, the White House is still required to report its salaries and staff titles to Congress every year. This is how we know that plenty of folks are raking in six-figure salaries at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. As of July 2017, a whopping 40 percent of White House staffers were pulling in $100,000 or more annually. And 22 aides were earning a hefty $179,000. Among them were Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Reince Priebus, Sean Spicer, and former Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault. Fun fact: out of those five, only Kellyanne Conway is still on the job.
What About the Big Boss? Donald Trump's Salary Story
Let's not forget the Commander in Chief himself. Since 2001, U.S. presidents have been earning $400,000 per year, plus a $50,000 tax-free expense account. But during his campaign, Donald Trump promised not to take a salary while in the White House. And so far, he's kept that promise. He donated his first-quarter salary to the National Park Service, his second-quarter salary to the Department of Education, his third-quarter salary to the Department of Health and Human Services, and his fourth-quarter salary to the Department of Transportation. He's not the first president to give his salary to charity—Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy did the same, according to BBC News.
Do They Really Need the Money Anyway?
Of course, neither Ivanka nor her father needs the White House paycheck to stay in the billionaire club. Take Ivanka, for instance. Over a recent 17-month period, she reportedly earned at least $13.5 million, according to CNN. That designer wardrobe of hers certainly isn’t paying for itself! At the end of the day, it's clear that the Trumps are more focused on service than salary—at least on paper.
