Hey there, friends. If you're a fan of Jennifer Lopez, you might be feeling a little blue today. NBC has just announced that the gripping police drama, Shades of Blue, will conclude after its upcoming third season. But don’t worry, J.Lo isn’t going anywhere! She’ll still be collaborating with the Peacock Network on other exciting projects.
Back in 2016, Shades of Blue premiered with Jennifer Lopez stepping into the shoes of Detective Harlee Santos, a complex character who was both a single mother and a member of the NYPD Street Crimes Unit. This unit, led by the morally ambiguous Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, played by Ray Liotta of Goodfellas fame, was not exactly squeaky clean. Harlee herself had a dark past, including framing her abusive ex for murder with Wozniak's help. Critics, like Ken Tucker from Yahoo!, praised Jennifer for delivering some of her best dramatic performances since her breakout role in Out of Sight. Her portrayal of Harlee even earned her a People’s Choice Award, showing just how much audiences connected with her character.

For Jennifer, playing Harlee was more than just a job—it was a transformative experience. In her heartfelt statement, she shared, “Producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world has been incredibly rewarding. Harlee Santos is an empowering yet deeply flawed character—a woman, a detective, and above all, a mother. Playing her has strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It’s amazing how some roles can seep into your soul and change you forever. We’ve crafted a poetic three-season arc that brings Harlee’s journey to a fitting conclusion—true redemption, the hard way, the road less traveled. I’m so grateful to NBC, the talented cast, writers, crew, and producers for being a part of this incredible journey.”
What Lies Ahead for Harlee Santos?
Universal Television President Pearlena Igbokwe reassures fans that the final season, set to premiere on June 17 at 10 p.m. on NBC, will be a thrilling conclusion. “Shades of Blue has been a cornerstone of our lineup, and we’re thrilled to present the final chapter to viewers. They’ll be on the edge of their seats as we reveal how Harlee’s story unfolds,” she said in a statement. It’s going to be emotional, intense, and unforgettable.
Jenny from the Block Stays Busy
Thankfully, Jennifer Lopez isn’t leaving NBC entirely. With an overall deal with Universal Television, she’ll continue to grace our screens in various capacities. She’s returning as a judge on World of Dance for its second season, launching this June. She made a memorable appearance on the revival of Will & Grace, and she’s even set to star in NBC’s live musical adaptation of Bye Bye Birdie next year. It’s clear that NBC has a lot of love for this multi-talented star.
