Her battle with bipolar disorder began 17 years ago when she was hospitalized for a mental breakdown. Despite being diagnosed back then, it took her until now to seek proper treatment. "It was such a heavy weight to carry, and I couldn’t do it anymore," Mariah shared. "I finally reached out for help, surrounded myself with positive people, and returned to what I love most—writing songs and making music."

How Mariah is Managing Her Bipolar II Disorder

Now that she’s come to terms with her condition after years of silence, Mariah is actively managing her bipolar II disorder. She’s taking medication and attending therapy sessions to handle the frequent waves of depression and hypomania. "The medication I’m on now seems to be working well. It doesn’t make me feel sluggish or tired, which is a relief," she explained. "The key is finding the right balance, and that’s what matters most to me."

Why Now Was the Right Time to Speak Out

As a mother to six-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan with her ex, Nick Cannon, Mariah has had a lot on her plate. But after years of keeping quiet, she felt the time was right to share her story. "I’m in a really good place right now, and I’m comfortable talking about my struggles with bipolar II disorder," she revealed. "I hope that by opening up, we can start lifting the stigma surrounding mental health issues. No one should have to go through this alone—it can be incredibly isolating."

Mariah also emphasized that her disorder doesn’t define her. "It’s not who I am, and I refuse to let it control me," she said. "I’m still the same person who loves life, family, and music. And I’m determined to keep pushing forward." Her courage and resilience are truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder of her for speaking out.
