When Ed Sheeran Meets Royalty: The Perfect Musical Match
As the world eagerly awaits the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, it seems there’s another layer of magic about to unfold. Reports suggest that none other than Ed Sheeran has been invited to perform at the couple’s wedding. Now, let’s think about this for a moment. Ed Sheeran, the guy behind hits like “Shape of You,” has a history with the royal family. His music, filled with heartfelt and romantic lyrics, fits perfectly with the love story of Harry and Meghan. This isn’t just a wedding; it’s a celebration of love, and Ed Sheeran is the ideal artist to set the tone.
“Ed Sheeran has yet to confirm, but let’s be honest, do you really turn down Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?” royal correspondent Victoria Arbiter told Entertainment Tonight. “People adore his romantic love songs, and he’s a natural fit for that first dance. I think Harry has always been a fan of Ed Sheeran, and it’s no surprise he’d want him to be part of this special day.”

Ed Sheeran: From Royal Knight to Royal Entertainer
Ed Sheeran’s performance is expected to take place during the evening reception, an event set for May 19, hosted by none other than Harry’s father, Prince Charles. Interestingly, last year, Prince Charles himself presented Ed with the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) medal. Victoria Arbiter added, “This is where everyone’s really going to let loose. This is for close friends and family, the people who matter most to Harry and Meghan.”
Ed Sheeran’s connection with the royal family goes back years. He first met Prince Harry at Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee in 2011, long before Harry met Meghan. Beyond Harry, Ed also shares a close friendship with Princess Beatrice, Harry’s cousin. There’s even a fun story about how Beatrice might be responsible for the scar on Ed’s cheek. Allegedly, during a party at Windsor, Beatrice attempted to knight Ed with a sword but slipped, leading to the accident. “I can’t talk about it,” Ed joked on The Graham Norton Show in 2017. “I don’t know what will happen if I do!”
Ed continued, “I have no idea how the story came out because there weren’t many people there that night. For two weeks after, I had this huge gash on my face, and I’d tell people I fell. Then suddenly, the real story leaked.” Despite the sword mishap, Ed Sheeran won’t be the only famous musician attending the wedding. Elton John recently rescheduled several concerts initially set for the wedding weekend, sparking rumors that he will also be there. “I spent some time with Harry in Sicily last summer, and I could tell he was deeply in love,” Elton said earlier this year. “He didn’t talk much personally, but he said, ‘I’m in love,’ and I thought, good for you.”
