During a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 61-year-old Hollywood legend joked that his co-star, the legendary Meryl Streep, might just be a little "high maintenance." Now, Tom and Meryl teamed up for their much-anticipated movie The Post, and when Stephen Colbert asked Tom what it was like working with Meryl, Tom didn’t hesitate to quip, “You mean, can I just say, ‘high maintenance Meryl Streep?’”

Colbert, playing along with Tom’s joke, asked, “Oh really? Diva?” Tom quickly shot back, “Look, the shoes alone, man… No, I am so joking.” In fact, the star of Big revealed that Meryl doesn’t get any special treatment on set, despite her decades of experience in the industry. “You know what’s scary about Meryl? She comes in and does it just like everybody else does,” Tom explained. “You’re expecting French horns before she enters the stage. You expect a guy in livery to come out: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the actress known as Meryl Streep.’ And she comes in and waves to the crew the way the royals used to.”

A Hollywood First: Tom and Meryl Team Up for The Post
Interestingly, The Post, which premiered in theaters on December 22, marks the first time Tom and Meryl have worked together on a major motion picture. Sure, they both appeared in the 2015 documentary Everything Is Copy, but this is their first big-screen collaboration. Both Tom and Meryl have achieved incredible success in Hollywood—he’s won two Oscars, and she’s taken home three. But Tom’s journey to the top hasn’t always been smooth sailing.

In his latest book of short stories, Uncommon Type, Tom shares some candid insights into his challenging and unconventional upbringing. “Our world did not reflect everybody else’s or what we saw on TV… By the time I was 10, I had lived in 10 different homes,” he wrote. “My siblings would say it wasn’t that fun—we were miserable. But in some ways, it was very cool because we laughed a lot.”
