Let me tell you, this story is one for the books. In a candid conversation with Closer Weekly, former The Bachelorette star Trista Sutter spilled all the details about the frightening seizure she endured back in June. Now, picture this: Trista, a mom of two and wife to her high school sweetheart Ryan Sutter, suddenly finds herself in a situation no parent ever wants to face. Not only did this shake her to her core, but it also had a profound impact on her family, including her two little ones—Blakesley Grace, 8, and Maxwell Alston, 10.
Trista’s Seizure: A Life-Changing Moment
Here's the thing: Trista didn't just brush it off as another day in the life. She explained how the experience affected everyone around her, especially her husband Ryan, who's no stranger to medical emergencies as a firefighter and EMT. "Ryan has seen his fair share of health crises, but watching it happen to someone you love? That's a whole different ballgame," Trista said. And honestly, can you blame him? It's one thing to deal with strangers in distress, but when it's your partner of almost 14 years? That's a gut punch like no other. Ryan even took to social media and wrote a heartfelt blog post about it, which shows just how deeply this hit home for him.
For Trista, this was an awakening. She admitted, "Going through something like that makes you question everything—your mortality, your choices, how you live, who you live with. I woke up to Ryan telling me I had a seizure. I didn’t experience the fear firsthand, but knowing he was there watching it happen? That’s terrifying." And let’s not forget, Trista wasn’t just thinking about herself. She was worried about how this might have scarred her kids.

How the Kids Reacted
Now, let’s talk about the kids. Can you imagine being 8 years old and watching your mom collapse right in front of you? That’s exactly what happened to Blakesley Grace. Trista shared, "I fell over while we were sitting down, and I ended up on top of her. Ryan had to move me off, and Max was standing there in shock. Kids think their parents are invincible, but seeing something like this happen—it changes everything." Even now, her children are still concerned about her well-being, which speaks volumes about the lasting impact of that day.

A New Perspective on Life
Despite the trauma, Trista found a silver lining. Recently, the family took a trip to Zion National Park, where they hiked the Narrows. She laughed, saying, "The kids were my biggest cheerleaders. They kept asking, 'Mom, are you okay?' But honestly, I’m in great health, and this experience has changed my outlook on life. It’s opened up a line of communication between us, where we can talk about the reality that we’re not immortal. We can get sick, and that’s okay. We just need to support each other and take life one day at a time."
What the Doctors Said
Thankfully, Trista followed up with a neurologist in Denver who specializes in seizures. After a series of tests, everything came back clear. "My risk of having another seizure is essentially the same as it was before the first one. That gives me a lot of confidence that it was a one-time thing," she explained. But here's the kicker—Trista believes stress played a significant role. "I don’t have a definitive diagnosis, but deep down, I feel stress was a big factor. Since then, I’ve been more mindful of my stress levels, saying 'no' more often, and focusing on staying present in the moment."

Trista is thrilled to be collaborating with Honeywell Air Purifiers. "I’m so grateful to Honeywell because not only do they help purify the air in our home, but they’ve also educated me on the importance of keeping windows closed during the morning hours when pollen and dust are more prevalent," she said. "Their filters capture 99.97% of pollutants, which is incredible. Plus, allergists recommend the brand, so that gives me peace of mind. I’m excited to partner with them and share these tips with other families dealing with allergies."
