George Clooney's New Role: Dad Of The Year

George Clooney Is a Doting Dad to His 10-Month-Old Twins

Let's face it, George Clooney has had some pretty incredible roles over the years. But when it comes to his latest performance, the one that really takes the cake is being a dad. Sure, he won an Oscar for his role in Syriana back in 2005, but ask his wife, Amal Clooney, and their 10-month-old twins, Alexander and Ella, and they'll tell you—there's no better actor than George when he's reading bedtime stories. Picture this: George is in full character mode, doing high voices, low voices, and everything in between, all for the entertainment of his little ones. And guess what? Even though the twins don't fully understand the words yet, they—and Amal—are laughing their heads off every single time.

George isn’t shy about sharing his pride in his kids' reactions either. "My son laughs louder than anyone in the room," he boasts. "It’s the funniest thing." It’s clear that George isn’t just playing a role; he’s living it. He’s completely immersed in this new chapter of his life, and he couldn’t be happier. His wife Amal, a renowned English barrister, gushes about how great of a father he is. She married George in 2014, turning America's most eligible bachelor into a first-time dad at the age of 56. Now, as George turns 57, his life has been transformed in the most wonderful ways.

Life as a Dad: A Role George Embraces Wholeheartedly

These days, George spends as much time on the floor of his kids’ room as he does walking the red carpets of Hollywood. He's all in, and he wouldn't have it any other way. "It's wild. The first thing you think is, I hope I don’t screw this up," George says about the joys and challenges of fatherhood. That's why he recently stepped back from starring in Hulu’s Catch-22 series. He knows he's getting older, and he wants to make sure he's healthy and energetic for his twins. "He needs to conserve his energy," says a close friend. "Stepping back from that project is part of that."

  • From the very beginning, George was devoted to his kids. He and Amal would wake up every three hours when she was nursing. "If I don’t get up, I feel guilty," he joked at the time, adding that while it was a lot of work, it was also incredibly fun. "I’m a very good diaper guy," he says with a grin. "You should see when my friends show up and see me change a diaper—the laughter that comes from them is priceless!"

Celebrity baby nurse Connie Simpson, author of The Nanny Connie Way, came out of retirement to ensure George was up to the challenge. "He embraced the situation," she tells Closer. "He did a really good job and stepped up whenever it was time. I didn’t even have to ask!" Despite what some might think, George insists he doesn’t miss his wild bachelor days. "I sure don’t," he says proudly, adding, "Now my house is filled with the warm sounds of babies crying." For George and Amal, the most precious moments with Alexander and Ella start early in the morning. "Between six and eight in the morning, we get to have them in our bed," Amal shares, noting that phone calls aren’t scheduled before eight. The rest of the day depends on where they are.

A Life of Adventure and Normalcy

Life for George and Amal is always changing. They're a jet-setting couple, spending the spring in NYC while Amal teaches at Columbia University and works for the United Nations. They also have homes in LA, on a tiny island in the Thames in England, and in Lake Como, Italy. Their 18th-century Italian villa, purchased by George for about $10 million in 2001, is a favorite retreat. "They meet high-level people all the time," says a friend. "One night they might hang out with their friends and watch old movies, and the next they're dining with Barack and Michelle Obama." Despite their busy lives, they try to roll with the punches and enjoy every moment.

While they do have full-time nanny help, George and Amal are as hands-on as possible. Their three rotating nannies blend into the background so the couple can have quality time with their kids. "They feel they are the two luckiest people on the planet to have found one another," the friend adds. "They’re in bliss, and they’re happiest when they are home."

At home, George gets to really let loose with his "knuckleheads," his playful nickname for the twins. "He plays with them all the time with their building blocks and toys. And he loves to read to them," the friend explains. George is partial to Dr. Seuss, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and James and the Giant Peach. "He’s so thrilled with it all that if the kids throw up on him, he doesn’t even get embarrassed. He just laughs it off," the friend adds.
